I just got this little girl 2 days ago and snapped a pic before putting her in her enclosure. I didn't want to stress her out too much so its not the best photo ever. I'll wait until she's settled in before taking any more.

basically a normal with silver back ground coloration~

Yeah, it would help if they were from stock originally collected in the Miami/Dade area too, but basically Simon is right. Deep red/brown/maroon saddles with thick black borders on a silver/gray ground color describes them well. Some, like mine take quite a while to show their "best" coloration and are from parents found down there by Len Krysko years back.

alright, the reason I ask is because I bought and thought mine was a normal, but when I posted pics of it, people said "nice miami"

It's the same thing with the Okeetee ones.
People will call their cornsnakes an Okeetee when they have the nice red outmarked by a large black line going around the spots (instead of the fact that the snake originates from the Okeetee area or not).


People are now calling the snakes Okeetee and Miami phase instead of considering the locations they came from.

Well plenty of snakes straight from both localities show no signs of being "Okeetee" or not. I think the confusion is because you have ones that come from the areas which are true to the locality "Miami" or "Okeetee", AND on top of that ones that come from the areas which are normal, and ones not from the area which are miami or Okeetee.

I know that, that is why people as soon as they see a snake that looks like a nice okeetee (from the are) will tend to say it's an okeetee. I saw many okeetee's that are really normal looking.

what kind of subtrate is that?

Wolf, it's pine shavings. I use whatever I have handy at the time..lol! I normally use aspen, but when I run out or whatever, then I use what I have. I have never had any problem no matter what substrate I've used. I still use: paper toweling, napkins, pine, aspen, cypress mulch and carefresh. I rarely use the mulch except for my mandarin rats and southern hognose. There is a big difference in the pine shavings however, and I won't use the big "chips" or hard pieces. I like it to be light and fluffy.
I was using some from Canada called Emerald Isle or something. The best I've seen is Dry Nest and I use it mostly for rodents, but a friend, who is a much bigger breeder than I, uses it exclusively for all his animals.
