With the NHL's season approaching at a very rapid rate i can't help but get excited. Just wondering if there are any other hockey fans out there? if you are a fan, how about making your predictions for the 2002-2003 season.. Will we see a strike??

GO LEAFS GO!!!

for the sake of the sport i really hope they dont strike. As for the Oilers, being from Toronto i shouldn't say this, but Edmonton has a hell of a team. Mike Comrie is one of my favorite players to watch. He's going to have a breakout season with Iginla numbers???? Anything possible huh???

Being from LA I must say GO KINGS GO. There is nothing like hockey in the dessert. I do think they will avoid the strike. I think they, players and owners, know how much it would hurt the game to go on strike.

I personally know nothing about hockey, but if I want to be part of the family, I have to cheer for the 'only deserving' team. It's so bad here, even the geckos have figured it out.....

If the NHL can not learn from the mistakes that baseball have made well....As for the Oilers they and the Flames both have good teams this year .It should be interesting to see.Canada should be a tough nation.A nation of hockey.

now here's the REAL question -- any ideas when those Leafs tickets will be going on sale? Hehe :) I talked to Ticketmaster, and even THEY don't know... I'm trying to get a pair for my BF for his birthday coming up on the 4th... tried last year too, but there weren't any available by the time I found out that they were finally on sale...

Clownfishie, i was looking through my local paper the other night and noticed that someone was selling tickets to every pre-season game. If you are interested, let me know and i will try and get you the number (botharmsinked@hotmail.com). I wish my girlfriend would buy me Leaf tickets.

DragnDrop, that is the best picture i have ever seen. Your gecko's have great taste..

Yeah, they've got the preseason tickets for sale on ticketmaster -- just not the regular season. 'Course maybe I should settle for preseason tickets, there just weren't any good tickets left when I looked so I decided to wait for the regular season... if you could find the number, that would be great :)

I really really really hope the leafs win but I think our old man in the net doesnt quite have what it takes. But even if we dont go all the way Ill be just as happy to see the Leafs beat the H-E-double hockey sticks out of Ottawa AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! and I would be happy to see any canadian team except for the habs go all the way, but as much as I agree with Syst3m and AzR@K I think that if the Wings new coach has have the brains of scotty then he definately has the team to go all the way but as I said before, LEAFS LEAFS LEAFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!

I dunno we were pretty proud of our Hurricanes last year... not bad for a new team. It's fun coming from Detroit where hockey is huge down here to North Cackylacky... and seeing all these Nascar fans take up hockey. Especially considering there is about a week of winter down here...

Way too many Leafs fans here...that's no surprise.

I have been an Oiler season ticket holder for about 5 years. Unfortunately, I won't be getting them this year but I'll make it to as many games as I can. They are looking good this year.

Jeff_Favelle
09-11-02, 09:12 AM
The Maple Laughs have become my team by default (Winnipeg moved), but how can you even think about hockey? Its September!!! They play like a thousand games so the first half of the season doesn't even matter. Its as bad as baseball. If you're getting excited about the start of hockey, you need to get out more, ha ha!!

09-11-02, 10:05 AM
Woa....nothing is as bad a baseball. lol

I was hoping they would go on strike and never resolve it.

Every game is important, to the Oilers anyway. They either make or miss the playoffs by like 4 points every year.

And I do need to get out more....out to more hockey games.

Embarassed to admit that I live in a city with the sh%ttiest hockey team going.....Vancouver.........so we won't go there.......GO MONTREAL!!!! LOL

09-11-02, 10:35 AM
LOL Mike -- now THAT is a hockey fan ;) Don't think that I'd go that far *grin*....

Now now Beth... the Canucks aren't THAT bad -- didn't they make it into the playoffs last year? :)

And Jeff, the season starts in October -- so there's nothing wrong with getting excited already ;) It's less than a month away! I find it impossible to get excited about baseball I'm afraid... the Jays... well... they suck ;) What can ya say...

Matt_K
09-11-02, 02:37 PM
Beth: TO hasn't won jack when it comes to Stanley Cups. But for the last 4 years they have been heading in the right direction. They had a 100 point season and made it to the conference final. I'd say that's something to cheer about.

Big Mike: That's a nice car. Its good to see some fan support for the Canadian clubs. It seems as though we're constantly hearing about this one and that one moving across the border because they aren't selling tickets.

The Season starts in less then a month!!!!!!!!!! That's ample reason to get excited. Every game is just as exciting as the next. Lots to look forward to this year. Toronto vs Ottawa or should i say, Tucker Vs. Alfredsson? Toronto vs. Long Island aka Tucker vs. Peca. Should be a very interesting season..

Need we say more????

DragnDrop

According to my very informed source, the only cup the red wings will bring home is a coffee cup from Tim Horton's.

I live in Ottawa, but you'll never hear me saying GO SENS GO!

There are so many hockey fans here, maybe we need a hockey forum....

I agree the Red Wings have great potential this year, but they also have a great budget!

I'm going for the Oil....

I had this really long complicated post about the wings,
But I deleted it.

To Summarize New coach, lost alot of tallent and didn't play the young guys enough.

Go hurricanes, gotta root for the new guys this year.

Thanks Detroit for 3 cups in my lifetime! At least one of our teams can be a winner. Boo to the Lions boo to the Tigers.

We need to just can all of the major league baseball players and hire all new ones. After watching those lamers play this year I think I should be on the plate again. Well here is to another year of great hockey!

Matt_K
09-12-02, 03:10 AM
Lots of Wings fans here too huh? Atleast they aren't all bragging about having Joseph. Perhaps you all realize there is nothing to brag about?? No im not sour that he didn't sign with Toronto, i have never been a fan of him. Without Bowman, Hasek and potentially Yzerman gone, i would have to say the wind isn't in the sails for the Wings this year. Not to mention many other teams have really stocked up this year.

I think the Wings fans this year will find out how luck they were to have Scotty. Most people do not give enough credit to a coach. Here are a couple of examples. Lakers & Bulls before Jackson. North Carolina after Smith. Players are the ones that do the job but the coach keeps those egos in check and makes sure the job is done. The players need to buy into the system that the coch has or its all over. With the talent the Wings have a new caoch does not have a chance. The playes will try to run the team and they will most likely fail unless they manage to just over power the other ream or Cujo plays like a man possessed.

lol We all know Detroit is Hockeytown, They gave us a great season last year, and 3 cups. I'd love to see them do it again, but I just don;t think this is the year for it. However they will still be a strong contender and SHOULD make it past the 1st round of the play offs.

"Detroit, home of the meanest fans in the NHL"

Matt_K
09-12-02, 03:10 PM
The only reason Toronto gets so much press is because they are a winning team. Other then last year, Edmonton hasn't got past the 1st round in how long? Ottawa same thing. Montreal hadn't even made the playoffs. Vancouver had some good teams, but didn't have goaltending and therefore lacked the success. Calgary, same thing. The fact of the matter is, Toronto puts out a winning team and therefore sells out every game. The media in Canada uses the Leafs 'our' team in Canada because of there success and fan base. If Vancouver or even Calgary put out a winning team year after year, you would hear all about them. Remember when Calgary won the cup in the 80's. You didnt hear anything about the Leafs. Even though i am a die hard Leaf fan, i will agree with you that the fans are a bit too much.. They never want to give credit to any other team or player unless he wears the blue and white. Well one of my fav players is Comrie, so i guess i'll get some flack over that by Leaf fans eventually..

Kurzix
09-12-02, 03:35 PM
I'll always root for the wings, but like inked says thats all that we ever hear about here. I was rather surprised to see the huricanes do as well as they did in the play offs last year. They are going to be a cup contender very soon, maybe even this year. they are a young team with alot of talent, they just don;t play my kinda hockey, they just need to work on the offense more. No one wants to see a 1-0 game...no thrill to it lol just my 2 cents

Matt_K
09-12-02, 04:40 PM
Carolina has a very talented team. And with Kevin Weeks and Arturs Irbe between the pipes they are definatly a contender. I wouldn't be suprised to see them go far again this season. But like you say, 1-0 games are very boring. I'm more of a 3-1 kind of guy myself with lots of hitting :) I think all big time hockey city's are like this though, they only want to talk about their team. lets give some credit to the small market clubs that suprise. Look at Atlanta last year. Kovalchuk and Heatley are incredible and Hnickla (sp?) is a very skilled goalie.

lets not live in the past :) Honestly though, the Habs had a hell of a season last year considering. Koivu is a cinderella story and i hope he stays healthy. Theodore is unbelievable. Something about the Quebec league, it seems to produce some amazing goalies. Theodore, Roy and Brodeur to name three.

Damien Aube
09-12-02, 06:13 PM
the QMJHL is a pure offenceive league..the goalies get pumped worse than a $5 hooker.

Don't forget Potvin, Thibeau and Cloutier

Damien

Matt_K
09-12-02, 06:22 PM
Lots of talent there, no doubt about that. Cloutier has his moments but still hasn't earned my vote as of yet. Potvin's starting to prove himself again and Thibeau's ranked up there aswell.

man the leaf fans are really confident here....especially with belfour in net. He is a bum...not to mention there captain who played what like five games in the playoffs last year...I am not a leaf fan being from edmonton but gotta love the wings led by a real captain who will do anything to win...And go OIL (a guy can have 2 teams to cheer for...as long as they never meet in the playoffs)

Matt_K
09-13-02, 05:02 AM
Jamie, Sundin didnt play much in the playoffs do to a broken hand. Can you blame the guy? As for Belfour being a bum, i guess Vezina's, Jennings, The Calder and a Stanley Cup ring mean nothing. Detroit has a real captain? If he's so real why is it that he might retire do to pain?

Patrick Roy is a cry baby... he didnt want to play on the olympic team beacause he knew he would be playing backup goalie. IMHO he is past his prime the same as belfour. Both of them have accomplished alot, but there i feel both are now pretty much obsolete.

Matt_K
09-13-02, 04:32 PM
Phillip: I have a friend who played professional hockey in Alabama, he played for Birmingham, ever get out to any games? Apparently its pretty good hockey down there.

Jeff: I hear ya when it comes to Roy, but as for Belfour, he has something to prove this season, was last season due to his relationship with coach Hitchcock? Or was it just the way he plays now. Time will tell. If the Belfour of the past shows up for Toronto this year, then consider that a great payoff for Toronto. As for the Olympics, Brodeur was the best goalie invited to camp and there never should have been a question as to whether he would play or not.

Matt_K
09-13-02, 05:34 PM
Just for arguments sake, Patrick Roy has played 966 games in his career with 61 SO's. Ed Belfour has played 735 games with 58 SO's in his career. Lets not forget Belfour played with Chicago through some bad teams and San Jose before they started winning. Broduer has played 592 games and has 55 SO's. Suddenly Mr. Roy doesn't look so spectacular to me. Don't get me wrong, he's a hell of a goaltender but the best ever? Not in mind. Terry Sawchuk!!!!..

Jeff_Favelle
09-13-02, 06:54 PM
I'll give you a Billion dollars if Belfour gets arrested this year. Oh wait, that's not a good deal for me....??? hmm..

09-14-02, 02:33 AM
Inked...all I got to say is that sundin did get hurt...but its the playoffs, in the past guys have played with broken bones and led there teams. Ya yzerman might retire due to pain but with how many rings? You have to lead your team and inspire them by example, not watch from the press box. And belfour with kidd as a backup. We will see at the end of the season how the goals against add up. Cujo took a paycut to play for a winning team

Matt_K
09-14-02, 05:59 AM
I'm not saying that Yzerman is any less of a leader cause he may retire. But lets remember, Yzerman didnt win the cup alone. Hasek stole how many games for Detroit? As for Sundin, he has always been a questionable leader, i for one think that Roberts should be given the 'C'. But lets also not forget that Toronto did play most of the playoffs with the Farm Team. Still, no excuses, they had a good season and a very suprising post season, it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if they stayed healthy.. If Belfour and Kidd can play up to their potential, goals against will not be an issue.. i hope. :)

Jamie
09-14-02, 11:20 AM
Ok I will give credit where credit is due...Roberts was the heart of that team in the post season, if you can call it a team since most guys were infact called up. In the east I was going for any canadian team but wanted so bad for toronto to make it in. I have to many friends and family who love toronto so i am like the black sheep of the group. Every toronto/detroit game last year was followed closly so the next day there could be some bragging and I have the idea that there will be some more bragging on this forum for me this season. GO WINGS

May the best team win
