beaded lizards

Im pretty sure thats what there called, anyways i was watching to most extreme, on animal planet, and they were doing the top 10 most venemous animals...i think it was like number 7, why? Anyone know how it gives away venom, through a bite?

btw, number 1 was the jellyfish

I think the beaded lizard is a comon name gien to the gilla monsters.
yes they have venom glands in their mouths and do give the venom through a bite tha goes through the skin.

From my knowledge Gilla Monsters and Beaded Lizards are two different species. The only two poisonous lizards in the world. They deliver venom through their teeth and the venom is excreted with the pressure of a bite i believe. Someone please inform me if im way off.

Saw some beadeds a week ago at the Pittsburgh zoo (hehe just before hitting a show in Monroeville) - yeah they look VERY similar . Like that fabled sweater- "just like that . . . but different".

i am pretty sure their venom is in thier saliva (well mixed into it - not inherent) as opposed to injected through fangs.

All Heloderma are, and the only, venomous species of lizards in the world. Unlike some varanids that are known to be "venomous", they are trully venomous. They do produce there very own venom. They do not deliver it through teeth such as vipers do, but have to "chew" it into the flesh much like some venomous snakes are known to. They have a very strong grip with their jaws as well, and relatively use their venom for defence only.

Beaded lizards have a range south of the Gila Monster, and their ranges only are shared by a small amount of relative space to range size. Very cool lizards. One of my favorites to see here in Arizona!
