Well, I have a little bit of a 'complaint' here. Actually it is more of a suggestion. I have no fantastic examples off hand, but one comes to mind. Scales Zoo had made a post on his baby boas dropping. Now, I know this has to do with boa constrictors, but I do not see why it has to be in the boa constrictors forum. I think that posts such as questions on BCI should go in the BCI forum, but things like that should be allowed in the general forum. The reason for that is, they get much more attention in the BCI forum. And I am sure it is something that everyone would love to hear. And not everyone frequents the BCI forum. Questions like "Proper Enclosure for a Common Boa" on the other hand, requires knowledge on the species, and experienced individuals likely frequent the BCI forum. Do you know what I mean? Also, sometimes I am so used to seeing a post somewhere, then I go to look for it and it isn't there anymore. One more last thing, is that I think if a post is being deleted, or moved, a pm should be sent to the poster so they know.

I just wanted to mention that Scales Zoo was merely an example from my opinion and had nothing to do with why I posted this. If you mind me using it as an example please let me know.

You know what they could have done.... is post about the baby boas, and then have another pic "Oh, by the way, here's a pic of a Taiwan Beauty snake"... that way it HAS to go in the general forum, because it's dealing with both boids and colubrids. :D

I see where your coming from Gino. I don't mind seeing topics from proud snake owners regarding something special in the general forum. It's the "Whats your favorite band" or "I feel like killing myself" posts that I could do without.

HAHA... *bows* If there is a loophole, I will find it! :D

LOL! But yea, and the other day I had my post on boa mania deleted. I hadn't said anything bad, and I don't think it was against the rules. I didn't see the post asking where EyeSpy went, so I figured why not. I go to look for replies, and can't find it anywhere. And they didn't have the decency to let me know :( LoL

) We keep all specific threads in specific forums for a few reasons.
-keeps things organized, and people that are looking for specific things know where to find them
-an allowance like that creates a gray area for types of threads allowed in forums
-when people were allowed to post the threads in question outside of the specific forums, we found that the specific forums were rarely used and the threads were scattered around the forums (not easy to find if someone is searching for threads), we cannot get rid of the specific forums and have everything all in one big forum, it would be too cluttered
This is just what we have found over time to work best :)

) I don't know why you weren't sent a PM, however the thread was taken down due to the content involved and some of the replies were becoming quite personal. Boa Mania's personal business doesn't need to be broadcasted on public forums, that is his private business that we have to respect on these forums.

When you first login to ssnakess.com there is a button to click on to view recent posts since your last visit. If you click on that, you will be able to view all posts, regardless of which forum they were posted to. Therefore I could care less whether it is posted in general discussion or the boa forum - I'm going to see it either way. For that reason, I hate when people post the same question to several forums (for eg, if someone posts a question about enclosures for their corn snakes in general discussion, enclosure & colubrid), as it shows up three times on the "view active posts".

I do the exact same thing as Auskan. I never browse by forum. I log in, click "view new posts" and it brings up all the new posts. :)

Yeah, that's what I do as well. If a thread title catches my interest, I read it.

Now if only we could get people to use descriptive thread titles instead of just "question" or "is this normal?" Ugh.

My favourite stupid thread title is "Why?". I see this like at least once a month, it shows up in nearly every forum at one time or another and I have yet to click on one. LOL! Way to lure us in with a snappy tiltle ya dildo. Let me guess, you're a professional journalist aren't you?lol!

Posters that make habit of using these vague titles need to realize the more descriptive the title, the better response they will receive, as well as it will aid people in the future when searching for topics.

i agree with you over the thread titles but sometime people(myself included) can think of a title.

I use the "view new posts" if it's been less than 24 hours or so, so I would still hope that threads end up in the right place. I specifically ignore certain forums depending on how much time I have on my hands, so even with "view new posts", I expect things to be topical in each group. If you put all boa birth announcements in the general forum as a policy, it's that much more stuff I have to wade through in the general forum. It's already too high volume to read diligently. If someone posts one there incidentally, I certainly dont mind.

On the topic of stupid subject lines, the worse is in the for sale forum. Why in the world would you say "for sale" in the subject line in a for sale forum? I KNOW you're selling something...tell me what the **** it is! argggh. That's my pet peeve.

Again, orange juice out my nose and all over the keyboard!! LOL! Couldn't have said it better myself man! :D
