Hi! I'm Leanne, I'm 25 years old. I joined this forum because A) I'm researching snakes, and B) Because I loathe the format at **************.
I currently reside in Saginaw, Michigan and am a Rural carrier associate with the USPS.
My current pets include Sassy the fat cat (on a diet, not sure it's working), 7 frogs, and 60 tarantulas (I'm a little obsessed).
As stated in the title of this thread, I'm eager to learn. I've got plenty of time, I don't plan on purchasing a snake until after the American Tarantula Society's conference in June.
I'm trying to make up my mind between a Jungle carpet python and a Borneo short tail.
I've lurked a few days, and this appears to be a very friendly and knowledgeable group. I look forward to learning a lot!

Hey and welcome!
Well as your first snake....the JCP or BP might be a bit much. I would suggest you go with something such as a Corn Snake, Ball Python, or a BCI.
But thats just my opinion:)

My mistake. Forgot to mention I had a Ball python a few years ago. She was a nippy cuss for sure, but I loved her. I despise Corns, Kings, and Milks, not sure why but I just don't like them. My opinion only of course.

Carpets are awesome snakes... even for a beginner. I've never kept a blood python and I'm sure they are great too but my vote would be a carpet... hands down. Easy to handle, easy to keep and easy to look at. :)
Welcome to the site. Prepare to get a 2nd pet addiction. ;)

Thanks! It's rather funny I think, that all these years I thought Carpets were nasty snakes. It wasn't until recently that I started reading about them and discovered just the opposite. I've seen a lot of sites list them as good for beginners too.
And I just realized that my using the word "despise" to describe my feelings about Corns, Kings, and Milks is a little harsh. I don't despise them, I just don't care for them. Nice snakes, just not my thing.

Indeed! I've already checked it out and see a lot of familiar usernames from the other forums I visit. Kinda feels like home already :D .

Lpacker....I say go for it then! The Bloods are demanding for humidity but other than that they're great! They can be nippy as babies but I haven't handled a fiesty one yet.
So whatever you choose be sure to post and tell us!

Count on it! I've decided on the JCP and will be leaving the Borneo for a 2nd snake. I'm not buying anything until after I return from NM in June though. My tarantulas will be fine by themselves for a week and I can get my brother to take care of my cat. The snake would be harder to find someone to care for it though. So that just gives me more time to learn before actually buying.

actually, all you would have to do is have someone check on it's water, temps, and maybe spot clean if necesary.
