x-snake

hi there,
couple of years ago i saw a snake in a forest in the east of equador, actually i almost stepped on it.
the guide who was with me only knew the local name for the snake: the x-snake named after the crossed pattern of the snake skin.
the snake was about a meter long and brownish.
according to the guide it was a very venomous one.
anybody knows what kind of snake this could be?
