View Full Version : evaporated water
quick q'
when deciding how much water i should change for a 25% change, do i include the water that has evaporated?
for instance... lets say 2 inches have evaporated. I want to change 8 inches of water. Should i remove 6 inches of water, which would be 8 with the evaporated water. Or do i still remove 8, and then fill back up with 10 inches.
Thanks
Geoff
do 8 to be safe because the dirst still in there for that much room anyways

The water evaporates and the waste is left behind, therefore I would remove eight inches and then add ten inches.

Just change it all I mean the more you clean the more time you can wait till the next clean.

If you are using a biological filtration system, you do not want to change all the water at once. If you do, you will kill all of the beneficial bacteria in your filter and it will not work properly anymore. It is best to change 25% to 30% of the water at each water change, and if you are unsure of your water quality, just change it more often. Look at it this way... If I gave you $10.00, would you drink a glass of water right from your tank without hesitation? If not, you need to do more frequent water changes. Good luck with your Turtle, and please post some pictures of your setup and your Turtle when you get a chance.
Take care, Johnny.

yeah, i wouldn't worry too much about specifics. The bottom line is to change your water regularly. With a filter, it may look clean but turtles are very messy and water that looks clean probably isn't even if it is just a few days old.
you don't want to risk shell rot.
in addition to the 25% rule for water changes, i gotta tell you, i'm in no hurry to change 110 gallons of water a week. Let me tell you, even with the right hoses, that'd be alot of work.
