Those aren't RPGs! Those are video games! :P
Haven't played Xenosaga, but Xenogears was a lot of fun. The Fallout games were excellent, but the coolest RPG of all time has still got to be Planescape Torment. They really worked the concept of in-game death into an art form :) (and one of the ways to advance the story)

Final Fantasy VII is the best RPG style video game, Sephiroth is the all time greatest bad guy, but all the FF series is really good except FF X-2, that game was a waste of money. Best RPG video game though is definately the Baldurs Gate series especailly NeverWinter nights.
As for REAL RPG's Dungeons and Dragons will always be the best, been playing for over 15 years and still love it!
BTW Final Fantasy VII is being made into a anime movie! I have the trailer if you want.

Sweet I'd love it. That is the next game I'm getting...they only had 8 so I got that and Tactics. I have multiple drawings of Sephiroth! LOL ill try and post them but i dont have a scanner only a digi so it wil be bad quality.
I might have to buy Baldurs Gate now:)

Planescape: Torment and Baldur's Gate are awesome games. Icewind Dale I (not II) was really good, too; kinda blown away by Baldur's Gate II, though.
A friend and I can't seem to find anyone to play PnP Dungeons and Dragons with, though. I'd like to try out the 3.5 edition.

FFVII was by far the best in the series. FFX comes a close second. FFX-2 Was to worst FF I've ever played. Still can't get over garment grids *shudders* WTF were they thinking!

I have played D&D for about 10 years now but for the last 3 years i have played online rpg called Everquest and am now looking into a new one coming out this summer called Guildwars.
Planescape: Torment, the Fallout series, Arcanum, Neverwinter Nights.

AD&D is a real life role playing game with some friends and a Dm kinda like a master of the game, the creator or overseer of the gaming world, I think you can play it as well online with other people but that would have to be set up between people. I have heard Everquest is like the same thing but I do not know I never played it but my sister was totally addicted to it .
And yes I am well aware how much of a geek I am so no one comment ;)
Ill find some pic's and post them for you Burmguy.

Those arn't true RPGs. Grab a few friends and get into AD&D or Rifts, or Vampire. Now THOSE are true RPGs.

I'm with Sunrunner and Daver, AD&D would be my favorite, though I can't say I've played in a lot of years:-(
I liked Planescape: Torment, but haven't tried many of the others- too cheap (broke?) to buy them!

Wow so alot of people play them.
I'll admit a year ago i teased the HELL out of my friend for playing these "stupid" games. Then one day I was watching him play it and "secrectly" I went out and bought FFX........now I'm addicted! Cant get enough of them!
I would reccomend Xenosaga to anyone who likes games like FF. The graphics are simply amazing...the ingame battles are fun...jand its just all aroudn a great game. Plus its only 20 bucks now!

Never Winter Nights is the closest your going to get to an actual D&D experiance. The single player story is very good, but the multiplayer is very much like what you would play in real life. A person (DM) constructs a world based on a story line he either made or or pervioulsy existed. People join in on the game and you play out the story line. I never got into the multiplayer much of NWN but seems like it could be allot of fun.
Everquest, in my opinion is the crappiest game I've ever seen. I have no idea how it holds such a large player base. The basic premise behing EQ is that it is a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG). You create a character, run around, and kill things. That's it, sure there a few large mobs that have better items and you can gain levels and what not, but there is no real story line to the game. Bashing on NPC's (Non Player Characters) for hours on end day after day, just to get an item has never been my idea of fun. UO (Ultima Online) back in 2000 was one of the best MMORPG's out on the Market because of the diversity and the PvP (Player vs Player).
But really it all depends on what your looking for, if your looking for more of an actualy D&D style game NWN is the way to go. MMORPG's are not very story driven, the game is what you make of it, the people you encouter and the things that you do.

yeah I got a demo for Everquest online and the game was boring as hell and the graphics were ****** as hell
There is a sequel planned for FF7. Should be interesting....

Ugh....... they butchered FFX-2 with a sequal, I think they had it right the first time and keep every game seperate with a few little tie ins here and there. Like how there is allways a Cid in every FF.

It's more along the lines of 7 though. i thought 10 was complete crap. Too linear, absolutly nothing fun about it..... The characters were annoying, the story was stupid.. IMO of course.. I still love 2 & 3..

I thought X was an awsome story line. Voice acting was pretty good. Story line was really good I thought. How that whole Sin thing and the summoner was really well done I thought. The summons were top notch. Anima was one of the coolest summons I have ever seen.
The things that were wrong with X2 was the fact there was no main character. I only played for the first hour or so but no summons. Garment grids were without a doubt the dumbiest thing I have ever seen. No leveling, everything was done through these garment grids. Just so lame.

I enjoyed X asd well. But then again that was the first FF I played....so I had no comparison really. I think VIII is better already and I'm only 2hrs in! lol

Never played any of the FF series, started way back in my early days playing AD&D and moved on to the usual crop for gamer geeks... Rifts, Vampire, Star wars, Star trek, Paranoia, Call of Cthulu... the usual :)
I agree that the Fallout series is one of the best CRPG's ever made. I currently run a Neverwinter Nights persistant world as well http://www.urath.org if you're interested in checking it out :)

I love them. I'm quite addicted to the Final Fantasy series, I'm actually in the middle of playing FF3 for the SNES, talk about taking ya back eh? *L* Another one that I absolutely LOVE is Koudelka, it's a horror based RPG, REALLY cool. Legend Of Dragoon was quite fun as well. :)

FF VII sequel is a movie not a game.
The best MMORPG is Final Fantasy XI, but it is expensive to play. Video games will never equal d20 systems (pen and dice), they are not and can never be as versatile. With a good DM, AD&D is the most fun and addictive thing going. But FF7 will always be the best video game RPG with Neverwinter and Morrowind being close seconds. FF8 was good but too lovey dovey and futuristic. FF9 was fun but the story wasn't very in depth but it was pretty funny...the Vivi character was great.
BTW all the original FF games can be bought on playstation now, plus a few never released in english before ones. I bought them all and they are all fun. Not as good as the real thing though.

BTW Evercrack will addict you!!!!!
I used to play TMNT long ago, haven't played anything with dice in a long time.

It's more the challenge then anything. There is no greater challenge then to be pitted against another real person on the other end of a computer. Bashing computer controll monsters get's to repatative for me. But I played Ultima Online for 4 straight years because of the people I played with. Not because they were friends but because of the challenge. The PvP system in UO has never been close to matched in any other MMORPG and I've played allot of MMORPG's (EQ, UO, Linage, Earth and Beyond, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online) and what kept me playing was being able to fight against other players in a real skill vs skill competition day after day, fighting new people doing diffrent things. When UO changed their fighting system completly on me in 2003 I quit playing because it lost what was fun, the challenge.
But your right, I've never seen the draw too MMORPG's such as EQ because there really is no point. The PvP system is a joke so the only challenge is finding your next "l33t" item and killing more NPC's. Never made sense to me how people could sit and play for thousands of hours doing nothing but monster bashing. Just seems like the most boring thing in the world.

Oh, come on, Diablo 2??? You have got to be kidding, that's not an RPG, that's a hack and slash game. Not to mention the fact that it is riddleded with Hacks on Battle.net. Compareing Diablo2 to such classics as Final Fantasy and Never Winter Nights is like comparing SPAM to Filet Minion(sp?).

I thought Diablo was a great game... definately hack and slash... but there's nothing at all wrong with that! Just not an RPG :)
Haven't played SW:KoTOR yet but I hear good things. I know several people that work at Bioware actually... being based in Edmonton it's only a matter of time before geeks of different areas run into each other ;)

Speaking of Hack 'n Slashers, i picked up a new game for the PS2 called Champions of Norrath a few days ago, that game is unbeliavable!!! If you like treasure quests and real time battle you will love that game. I must have packed like over 15 hours on it over the past few weekends...
Best game of the genre.
