I've had my male plains hognose for about a month and he's been very docile. Just yesterday, i walked by his tank, and he just hooded, hissed for at least 10 seconds and flopped over feighning death. I thought something might be ailing him so I put on my gloves and checked him. He however, was very docile while i held him. Is he having "mood swings" or just nervous?

Mine do that too, my male will be docile and like a corn some days, and others WATCH OUT. MY female on the otherhand ALWAYS wants to kill me.

I've seen it with some of my hogs too. Sometimes they just get spooked and instinct takes over....

Is he getting close to shedding? If he's blue and his vision is impaired, he might be spooking more easily?
...is it not breeding season soon? :)
