Hi again everybody, just because hots fascinate me I was doing a little reading on them, from what I've read in the U.S. you cannot acquire a personal supply of anti-venom, but in Canada it is legal too purchase and own your own supply, is that correct?? And if so where do you purchase it?? Anyone know??
Thanks,

There are a number of suppliers in North America and Australia, but be prepared to shell out some serious money....even a nominal supply for a single type is likely to run you $5000-$7500 or so.
because AV is not an FDA approved drug, you basically need a doctor to "sponsor" you to bring it across the boarder.
The doctor can order the AV and most likely they will need to be the ones who keep it on-hand.
AV's run from $35-$1000 USD per vial depending on what species and you typically need at least 10 vials on-hand
For things like king cobra AV, its smart to have more than 10 vials

You CAN get your own supply here in the states....... If it an exotic AV you need to get FDA permits and a doctors signature to import it into this Country......... SAIMR (South African Polyvent used to treat viper and cobra and Mamba bites) is very cheap in comparison to the AV produced in the US (Crofab for crotalid bites).....
SAIMR= 60 to 80 dollars a vial USD
Crofab= 750 to 850 dollars a vial USD
With serious bites, I would not want less than 12 vials....... Some real bad bites can use more........ You do the math.......
