View Full Version : normal adult size
What is the average/max adult size weight wise. The scale I'm waiting on goes to 30lbs. I currently don't have one, ordered hasn't arrived but I plan on keeping better records of weight (currently it is, yup they have gotten bigger) and am wondering what I can expect for an average max weight. My babies are only 1 1/2 yrs old but eat well and are getting bigger by the week. I will hopefully borrow my sisters camera and post some digital pics in a while thanks.

Any chance what you meant was your scale goes to <u>300</u> pounds? That is, it's a typical "bathroom scale", therefore hard to get accurate weights of small snakes on?
If you really meant 30 pounds, cancel that order for another scale! Unless you meant to post that question in the Giant Python Forum.:D

Edit - Uh, never mind. I guess when you said "waiting", you <u>meant</u> waiting. Obviously, I read "weighing." Duh.
I went for years not knowing accurate weights of my animals after they exceeded the maximum (2600 g) on my triple beam balance. I really like the My Weigh scale I finally got which goes up to 20 kg/44 lb. Anyway, your 30 lb scale ought to hold you! A 15 pound ball python would be a true giant.
THe 'average' weight for a male ball would be in and around 2000g, and a female would be in the 2500-3500g range. Your scale is good enough for weighing balls.
That is good to know. I also intend to someday have blood pythons too so I wanted one that would hopefully weigh accurately. It is acurate within 2g up to 2 kg and then within 5g after that. It is a postage/kitchen scale I got on ebay for $20.00 USD, I can't get it that cheap at radio shack, for the same price I could only get a 5lb scale. Thanks again for the info, anyone got an average/good weight for a 1 1/2 yr old???
If you are also going to own bloods, you might need a bigger scale for those monsters. A good sized 1.5 year old ball male would be in and around 1000g, and for a female (from the ones I have that age) mine range from 1300g-2100g.

By biggest female ball weighted 8.4 lbs at the vets (my scale only goes to about 2,400 grams). I've heard that there might be a few females close to 20 lbs out there but I think a 30 lbs scale will be more than adequate for ball pythons.
Thanks all, I am looking forward to weighing my girls when the scale gets here and checking out how big they are, they are all close to 2ft length but no idea on weight. I have been reading that some of the bloods get up tothe 40lb range so I may be looking for another scale but this one will last for a few years anyway!

2 feet in length will be about 500g or so. Maybe less, depending on body fat. So that would be about a pound. I find that scales for weighing Ball Pythons should weigh in AT LEAST 5g increments, preferrably less (like 1g).
Best of luck! :D
well I weighed them today, my scale came in and Demetae is 254g, Isis is 228g and Osiris is 181g. I'm hoping they keep up the eating well since I want them to gain weight!!!! They look well filled out though, not skinny for their length and other than their slow down for winter they are good eaters so I hope they are doing well and gain up the weight fast.

Hey, well, there's a great example why trying to estimate weight from an estimated length can be waaay off sometimes. Scales are very helpful in your arsenal of husbandry tools.
Don't worry. Feed them and they will grow. At their own good speed.
