I was just offered some oak shavings for my rodents. Anyone know if Oak and other hardwoods are safe?
Thanks,
Trevor
The shavings that I use are hardwood shavings. They don't have the smell and oil that pine shavings do. It should work just fine.
Hardwoods are the best kinds to use, however there are a few hardwoods to that are toxic, such as Walnut and Apple.
Hardwoods like oak lack the phenols that pine and cedar contain, so they should be the best shavings to use...if they weren't so damn expensive.
