Well let's not stoop and turn this into a US bashing site. We have lots and lots of great American members here that help keep this site great.
I am by no mean sugesting that was your intention when you posted but we just don't want some people to use this as an excuse to start bashing those sites or our neighbours.
Cheers,
Trevor

Cheers indeed. The reason why ssnakess has WAY more members and more posts per day than any other forum is because our welcoming attitude has nothing to do with which country we live in - the herp community is its own community, regardless of borders.

You're too much mykee!
I can honestly say that I only ever visit three other sites other then this one, one for corns, one for coralus and one very similar in layout to this one. Although I rarely do visit them, when ever I have I haven't experienced anything negative. Maybe I just don't go enough, then again why bother.
Cheers,
Trevor
I'm with Trevor. I hardly ever go to any other sites, although I'm registered at several others. I haven't noticed any bashing of any other nationality, but perhaps I'm not as sensitive to it since I'm not Canadian. Of course I'm not American either, even though I live here for the time being....

Personally i've noticed that ignorance and general stupidity aren't confined by lines on a map, pretty much a universal problem. The internet just let's all of them gather together in one place :) Assuming that a certain percentage of the population is like that it's just math that means there's more idiots in the US than people in Canada. Then again there's about 9 times the good people too ;)
I will agree that this is by far the best general herp related site i've seen on the net and Jeff and crew do an excellent job of keeping things running smoothly. I moderate a few different forums myself so I know it's no easy task to police such a community.

The site that I was referring to the moderater and the Administerater are for the most part the probulm 90% of the Canadian bashing is coming from them! So far it looks like its not a big deal its just a bunch of jurks on one site.

West hill has a bit of a point there. There's at least one very well known site with a stupid attitude problem from the mods themselves. Because of that i rarely visit Bo... oopss, was i gonna give names away?!?

The reason this site is so great, is it is very easy to moderate.
Moral seems high among members, threads like this that don't get out of hand are great. It isn't hard to moderate when the members keep the site on track. There are many people that help this site to move along in a good way - that helps a lot in my opinion.

Theres always gonna be somethin' between countries... not all sites bash 'cause your canadian, some people are ignorant, however, since that happens, no one can stereotype all Americans as ignorant and stupid... personally, I find it really stupid to bash over the net, but it happens :)
I actuall resigned from the forum in question and cancelled my order with him as a result of the veiws expressed there. I've traveled enough to know that the average American is pretty cool, but I just think that forum has a bit of an ego problem.

I've bin talking to that guy since last Jun about two albino retics that I was going to buy, he was going to throw in a tiger to for $ 4000 US. Oh well anyone that thinks they can help me I'll be looking to spend some money this spring.
I know exactly which forum some of you are talking about, with Mods who have attitudes.
The best part is, that forum is one of the BEST out there for those with a sense of humour. It's one of the only forums that doesn't tolerate oversensitive "you offended me" BS, yet is still REALLY popular. If views husbandry wise are expressed that they do not agree with and argue with you over it, the general point is they enjoy debate, arguing etc. And when it gets to the point you want to tell them to shut the hell up, they laugh. THAT'S why its hilarious. If you can't take the heat sort of thing.....but if you roll with their punches, that forum ROCKS! I think its a breath of fresh air and visit daily.

I agree...I have never considered checking out a different site
at times it is difficult to get breeder recommendations here since I am in the US, but I would never consider getting my info from another site
the wealth of knowledge here is unreal and I appreciate the politeness that you all present us with
sometimes we're not too welcoming of underknowledged beginners, however there are a few that are always willing to point them in the right direction, and this happens on every forum anyways
I don't see why any American would have anythign bad to say about Canadians...hell, I'm damn near Canadian anyways up in North Dakota

if we still have shane, and everyone else, keeping this site up, i dont see a problem, it seems like this site has been very sucessful keeping people from bashing canadians, i bet most of the people here are canadians i could be wrong, but we should thank the Mods, Admin etc, cause they respect everyone here, unlike other Mods they kick you if they dont like how you are

I think it goes well beyond sense of humour. I'm not easily offended at all, but I think alot of what goes on their is elitist, nationalistic, and absolutely ego driven. It seems to go beyond liking a lively debate and just waiting for the next person to cut down. Not a great enviornment to learn in. And yes it's popular but so are the Back Street Boys...
Well if thats how you take it. Fortuantly many many other people take it the way I do, and have plenty of enjyable conversation there. :)

Im on some other forums, not reptile boards but a few Jeep ones, and find that bashing or flameing is a popular passtime.
One in particular has cleened up its act quite well. But it seems to go in cycles, ive ben lerking on the board a long time. And like the Back Street Boys, I know they exist but I wouldnt pay for a tickit.
In fact It got so bad that I got my own Jeep Board running.
I still go to the other board... cuz I like some of the personalitys on it and would definitly like to hook up and ride width em But... once the flameing starts it sorta ruins alot, But if you like reading the equivlant of The Springer Show
But Let me say the admin of this, and the aTa site do a great job of keeping it cool!
The members of this site are just full of information I will sure be here and at aTa for quite a while!

I'm not sure how many Americans you all have met, but I have yet to meet enough arrogant and nationalist ones to consider it a stereotype
By no means am I saying that all Americans are arogant nationalists. Not at all. I've traveled all over the U.S. and have loved it and alot of the people. If this web site were to bash Americans I would be just as offended. Or any other nationality for that reason. Please don't take what I have said as a criticism of all Americans or the country. It is just a critisim of a particular forum and that's all.
I'm not sure how many Americans you all have met, but I have yet to meet enough arrogant and nationalist ones to consider it a stereotype
I lived in the USA for 3 years. I have not lived there for 10 years, but still keep in touch with and visit the friends I made there. Don't mistake patriotism for ego. Canada has a lot to be proud of, as does the US. The Amercians are just a little more vocal about it, and, as a Canadian who was basically an American for a while, have good reason. :)

All I know is, I am the coolest American you will ever have the honor to meet....... LOL....... The americans from that site are are probably from some red neck hillbilly towns........LOL....... It is pretty ignorant to bash or make fun of someone because of their nationality........ This site has a big mix of different people and the huge majority are awesome........ Everyone is ok in my book, until you give me a reason not to like you........ Anyway, this site rocks and the Canadians and Americans get along perfectly on here....... So what does that tell you????? Oh and I also love the fact that there are so many HOT Canadian chicks into reptiles.......LOL........ Anyhow, I cant wait to go to Canada and meet up with some of you at the next reptile expo.......

I enjoy a little harmless poking, as long as it is in good fun. When you get to know people, you can make little stabs and it is generally on a defining characteristic, whether you are American, Canadian, short, tall, fat, skinny, yuppy, redneck, Corn keeper, Hot keeper, bad speller, can't hit enter and just use alot of ........'s instead :D
Of course, I am a short, skinny, redneck American Hotkeeper who looks like Hermie the elf from Rudolph, so I catch alot ;) I get alot of crap about living in the South, and i make fun of the South. As long as it is in good fun, it makes people seem more real rather than just screen names.
There are only 2 problems with living in the South, the heat and the racism. But it is not so much the heat as the humidity and not so much the hate as the stupidity :D

That's what happens. All the hostility and whatnot on the other forums are what inspired Jeff to start junglecarpetpythons.com (what is now known as sSnakeSs :p) :D A place to go where nobody had to deal with all that garbage. Doesn't matter where you come from or whether you keep one herp, no herps, or a thousand herps.
I don't see bashing so much on web discussion boards. I play on zone.com quite a bit with the screen name Canadian_Yeti....I get personal shots all the time from our neighbours to the south....Canada this and Canada that. I'm pretty good with words and not the one to leave with my tail between my legs:D. I have quite a few American relatives, they are all cool. I have met alot of ethnocentric Americans, really I bet the people that make fun of Canadians have never been north of the border.... ;)

Discrimination has no borders. If you have to bash on people just because they are from another country you have some bad issues.
I find more americans to be mean or discrimanitory (is that even a word?) towards me than canadians.
And PERSONALLY america isn't exactly the place to brag about right now.
I LOVE my country, I don't necessarily like the people in it.

This is the best site I've been too. There's another big herp site I used to live at, untill I was told about ssnakess.
Now I spend all my time reading posts and checking classifieds here (I know, I'm a loser:)). Every forum I've been to in the past I usually got into arguments with Americans, due to the fact I'm Canadian.
That's what's cool about sSNAKESs, everyone I've seen sofar get along quite well and are very helpful, if it weren't for this site, I'd probably have given myself a heart attack worrying about my snake. I like everyone here, you're all cool!
