veiled vs panther?

i am planning on getting another chameleon, either sometime this month or next. the problem is, i cant decide on which type to get. i either want to get a baby male veiled or a baby male panther(any type). but i dont know which kind i should get.

can some people please give suggestions/reccomendations of which type to get, and supporting reasons?

Panther all the way IMO. Ive dealt with both and panthers are the hands down winner in my books. They have better colour for sure and are alot calmer in temperment. Vields can be like a demon from hell. I used to have one that could have taken down a cat. Vields are really unpredictable in there temperments from my experience and panthers from my experience are a joy. If you know general chameleon husbandry well enough and have had experience with them in the past there is no doubt the panther is good. Panthers are more money and a little less forgiving in husbandry but still they win IMO.

im leaning more towards a panther also, but the only problem is the money. i dont want to spend 200$ on it, and have itdie a couple weeks later.

Just make sure to do your research before you get it...if you take a little extra time to make sure you have everything right and can afford it all then your set. Just make sure you set everything up before and check out temps and such...spend the extra time and money it may take to make it perfect to assure the health of the animal. Cheers Ryan

well i do have stuff set up already. i have a large age(2x2x4), but i still need some more plants in it. also, i have a baby cage set up, just to keep it in for a little and moniter its eating and health. ive also done plenty of research on them.

and im not sayng its going to die, im just saying what if it happens to die, and it not being my fault. what if i happen tobuy a baby at a show and its sick but shows no symptoms of it? then ijust lost 200$

Don't buy a hatchling. In my experience, the weaker ones tend to die before 3 months of age. Get one that is 4 months (healthy looking) and you should be home free.

I've only kept one cham and it is Neo my veiled. I agree he is an a$$hole, but i still love him. Just because a speices is aggressive doesn't mean you should rule them out, but if i could i would have some pygmy's and panthers.

As others said just make sure you do your research and have everything set up 100% before you bring home your new pet.

Id have to agree with this fully. In my experience make sure its well started and not just outta the egg. If its around 6 inches from head to tail its got a pretty decent start in my mind. This will really cut down the chances of death.

I got my red panther for $85, so they aren't that highly proced. He was just tiny, and he is doing excellent...eats like a pig! Although if you want to take the adive of the people here, a 4 month + specimen will likely cost closer to $200.

I think that 200 is a great price. Chameleons are difficult lizzards and require alot of care and attention I think the main reasion there are sooo many "abused" Veilds aout there is because they are so Cheap I wish they costed way more too. no mater what kind of cham u buy as a baby they will be much cheaper. why? because there is no garentee. babies can be a pain in the a$$. I say go with a older 4+ month guy there is a reasion there more expencive and its worth it.

Most likely a show. When pet stores get them they usually mark up the price huge. I used to work at one and when we had panthers we would pay say 80 for them but charge 250 !!! it was crazy !!....go to a show or contact a breeder and then you will get the best price and a little more personal interaction with the person selling it too you.

BREEDERS!!!! all the way, if there is a trusted breeder in your area, i would get a cham from them, even if it costed 150 for a 3 month guy, i would rather pay more then to have it dead in a few days. Panthers all the way!!!!! Usual when you go to shows you could trust most but not all, depends where you are i guess.... Do your reserach, if not having troubles with the chameleon you have now i would get a 4 month old guy if you can.
