caresheet misinformed?

found a care sheet on BCC and the only part of it i found odd was this:
"Usually only custom-built cages are the only suitable enclosures for adult specimens. Cages should at a minimum be 8 feet long by 2 to 3 feet wide by 4 feet tall."

seems a bit excessive to me, but then I don't have much experience keeping herps.

As with most information found on the internet (including this reply ;))...take it as more of an opinion than fact. You could probably find a care sheet that says that something completely contradictory to that information.

The best thing to do is to read as much as possible and form your own opinion.

I think its trying to give an idea of an enclosure that is bigger than the minimum to insure quality care of the animal's housing needs. The more space the better ideology is being implied i think.

I actually think that would be a good size for a BCC considering they generally get bigger than a BCI. My BCI male has a cage 6'Lx2'Hx2'W. Hes 6ft long. I do have to agree with that cage size but on the net you will find all sorts of different sizes.

Sounds a little excessive to me, particularly the 4 feet high business, but all of it sounds over the top to me unless you're dealing with a freakin' huge snake. Without any decorations or other crap in the enclosure I would use a 4' X 2' X 1' cage unless the animal got bigger than 10 feet. That's just me though, some people feel better giving them a lot more room.

I wouldn't call that misinformation, as bigger is always better when dealing with an adult boa. If you can afford, and have the space for a cage that size, then I would say go for it.

A cage that size would be more of a huge display setup with a mini-forest for your snake to climb around in :) I keep my adult BCC in 3(L)x2(W)x1(H) and 4x2x1 cages.

BCC generally reach the same lengths as Colombian BCI. 6-8 feet is about the average for both subspecies. No doubt both are capable of attaining larger sizes, however it is not necessarily typical.
