I was gonna post this in the boa forum, but I'm pretty pumped about the babies, so I posted it here.

As some of you know, we have been awaiting baby boas in the last 2 weeks. We’ve been going down to the zoo many times in a day to try and catch them being born.

This morning we went down as soon as we woke up, Sheila had felt like going down in the middle of the night, and I felt like today was a bit different as well. It also snowed last night.

This is what we saw when we rounded the first corner.

This is the first time we have produced boas, and seeing all of the different looking ones in the group sure is fun. I got to video most of them coming out of the umbilical sack, you could tell that the ones in the corner were the ones that came out of the female first, they were all the first to come out of their sacs.

Some have really nice tails, some have circle backs, some have widows peaks like mom and dad.

They were products of our 2 favorite boas. Some of you know Fang’s story, well, Fang is a daddy now. Both snakes, Fang and Alice, are the most docile boas I’ve ever met.

And there are a few that look really different at this time. Some have pink sides, but there are 2 or 3 that are pink and faded looking like this one.

We’ve counted 33 live babies. There were 4 non developed ova, and no still borns. We are pretty happy for our first time breeding boas, we figured we better practise before we were trying for salmons.

will be making a section on the webpage with more pictures of the babies, pictures of the female in various stages of gravidity, as well as pictures of the dad Fang, and his remarkable story.

It will be up by tonight, check it out www.scaleszoo.com

Pm box is no longer full, thanks.

These 33 boas were born on the 3rd day of the 3rd month, and we've had the adults for 3 years. 333, that is half evil - ooh, scary, haunted boas for sale.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, and thanks Alberta reptile rescue for Fang :) He is doing much better now obviously.

The babies are cleaning up, and all doing great. I've posted some new pictures on the webpage like I said I was going to. The link to the story of the baby boas can be found on the for sale page, under "potential offspring".

Thanks everyone, it's been fun learning about breeding boas. And thanks to those friends (you know who you are) who answered my questions patiently, your help is much appreciated.

It was not hard to pick which ones to keep, but it is hard not to want to keep more than a couple.

Maybe someday. Cool pics.
Are you housing them as a group still? Can you house those siblings together for a little while?

Classic, I have read that some people leave them all together for a while, others seperate them right away.

I haven't read why they all pile up on one another. I wish our temp gun was working, I'd love to see the temperature of the mass of babies compared to the cool end they are at. We have wondered if maybe they aren't piled up together to increase their temperature. Maybe it is for security? You would think in the wild they would be better off to separate, to increase the chances of survival for most of the litter. I've got some reading to do.

We are just heading down to separate them. We likely won't set each one up individually at this point, probably 4-5 per tub right now. We've been anxious to sort through them and take pictures of some of the ones with aberant tails, high white and red tails or really classic markings.

That's awesome, congrats! Are you going to be putting any video footage online?

Scales Zoo

Thanks Gary and Linds.

I have been contacted by 2 people on the forum who will be able to help me get a cable and card for my computer to be able to do so. They really want to see me get bit by the scrub python.

I am putting some VHS tapes together, of cool reptile things I've recorded since I got the camera (3 hours of digital tape), for a few schools in the area. I would like to be able to make DVD's as well, and edit the video somewhat professionally on the computer. Anyone who could offer help with that, please pm or email me.
