View Full Version : Antaresia Maculosa
I have got an awesome female spotted around 1.5 years old and a little over 30" in length.
I am curious as to the breeding age/size of this species.
Any info would be appreciated!

She sounds like she is just about there. If she has good girth she could go this season, but I would wait until next year & she will for sure be mature & big enough with no problems. Mark
Thanks for the information.
I'll see what she's looking like when next season rolls around. I am pretty sure she'll be ready then - She is about as thick as a toonie already!
I am also curious about another thing...I was under the impression A. Maculosa were considered "Semi Arboreal." But mine spends upwards of 85% of her time elevated. In-fact, the only time she ever hits the ground is when she goes to her humid-hide during shed time. She even drinks from her dish while "hanging around."
Any thoughts?

Putting them in rubbermaid rack systems, will resolve the arboreal tendancy:)
Many snakes will climb if given the chance, even sand boas.
I once dug one out of a door jamb at ceiling level
Sometimes they move toward the most appropriate temperature no matter whether that is in the air or on the floor.
All snakes swim, and I think its fair to say they all climb too

Antaresia seem to love to climb if they are provided space to do so. On the one "Killer Instinct" its shows a Childrens hanging outside a batcave hunting them as they come out. Way cool to watch them hunt in the wild thats for sure. Mark
Stockwell - My Sand Boa's used to climb as well. Only at night though, and as soon as they knew they had been seen they would dart for the sand. How only Sand Boa's can:)
As for my A.Maculosa climbing,
At first I thought it was because the terrarium was too cold and she was trying to get in closer to the heat. But I check my temperatures every 3 days and they are pretty much where they should be.
Hot side (Ambient) - 87
Hot Side Basking Spot - 91
Cold Side (Ambient) - 80
Night Time Drop - 77
As long as she is going to climb, I'll provide the space to do so. And I will admit that it is always nice to see her draped on her vines like a Morelia anyway! :)
