would that be a Central American Boa Constrictor? There is one at Petco for $119.99 with pals card and it looks beautiful and identical to that one!
Would that be a good price to pay for one of these babies? I think that it is beautiful!
JJ- no that's not a central american boa, it's a nice suriname.

What I was wondering is if Central American is a generic term that includes many (including the suriname) or if it is a specific snake?

There's a lot of gray area in locality taxonomy, i.e. a Guyana red tail can be more or less indistinguishable from a Surinam. At any rate, in general, a "central american boa" is a boa constrictor imperator and a true red-tailed boa (like the one in the picture) is a b.c. constrictor and comes from south america. There are differences between the two in scalation, disposition, patterning and size--bci's do not grow as large as bcc, and are thought of as being less skittish.
On the other hand, there's a good chance that your friendly local Petco got its hands on a wc surinam and just dumped it into an aquarium labeled central american boa. Those people don't know their arses from their elbows.
