View Full Version : ball in shed
my bp Lucy has been in shed for about a week but shes only used her humidity box about 2 times. i have 2 hides in her cage and the hide on the hot side is the hide shes always in except every once in a while. so i have this little bowl with a damp rag in the cage under her fav. hide on the hot side. but she hates it, shes always in the hide on the cool side. i'm worried she wont shed right if she doesn't use it. when i first got her she didn't shed right, the 2nd time i made a humidity box, she used it and she shed great. should i take out the hide on the cool side?

My BPs LOVE their humid hides on the cool side, and wont touch the hot side, except for my fem, she loves them both. I hope this will work for you, I also soak, EVERY DAY, in warm water for about twenty min. untill they shed, this is a sure fire way for a perfect shed.

thanks jacob, i'll switch that around in a bit and start soaking
I wouldn't start soaking your snake. Balls for the most part, hate being forced in to water and just causes unecessary stress for them, especially in a period where they are already a bit weary of everything. If your snake needs the humid hide and has used it in the past, then she will use it as she sees fit, otherwise it may be an indicator that she doesn't need it right now. For the most part, snakes are pretty good at making the best of what they are given. If the humidity is very low in the rest of the tank, you may want to try increasing the overall ambient humidity. If the conditions are right, the snake will shed fine. It's when the conditions are not correct you may end up soaking your snake.
thanks Linds. i already did swtich the humidity box spot to the cool side and i did soak her today but for maybe 10 minutes, she didn't even do any thing, she floated in the water the whole time but i wont do that unless she needs it.
i just wanted to add Lucy shed today and it was a PERFECT shed, she is gorgious
