Ok everyone keeps saying to use different substrate. If paper towels and newspaper is so bad why does every site say it is a good thing to use? What is the best thing to use? Wouldn't wood chips be harder to keep clean? Is there any good pics of garter snake enclosures on the web? I can't find any.Only BP and corn snake enclosures.I've been through the whole gallery on this site and reptilerooms.com and ************** .

i dont see why newspaper would be bad, it may not look great but its the easiest to clean. but i learned from owning garters that they love to dig. i think eco-earth or some kind of safe reptile dirt would be a great idea.

I use aspen shavings and I feed one in a different enclosure, and the other ones I put news paper down and put them on the news paper.

I honestly don't know who on this site would say that news paper and paper towels are bad. Most people recomend them for the first like 3 months for quarantine and to keep an eye on whether or not there are mites and to be able to find fecal and urate easier.

well i use what is called CORN COB its dried corn it is totally digestable in case they swallow it .It is also absorbant so you dont halfto change the hole tank just the dirty spots the snakes also love to burrow in it.It is non abrasive very save and looks great mixed with repti bark very real looking

what site was this other post on? but newspaper and paper towell are perfectly fine. there are so many people using it for so many animals that have been using it for so long and havn't had any problems so i think it would be perfectly fine.

That's the way to do it. Delivered to your door, easy to change, never any "intestinal blockage" and makes a whole lot of sence.

but if you want something looks good and natural for them to dig in, use (corn cob)mixed with (repty bark)news paper is not bad it's just the news print rubs of on the snake and makes them look DULL DULL DULL.

if you are afriad of the newsprint ruybbing off you can get unprinted newspaper or use paper towels.
