Baby Questions?

Hey guys,

Couple of quick questions about the little bundles of joy (Eleven little bundles to be exact...)

1-
How long until they start eating? We've been offering up pinhead crickets (smaller than the space between their eyes), and little finely shredded salads, but so far they just seem terrifed of the crickets. They've all had a good drink of water, but I don't think they've had a good meal yet.

2.
How long until it is safe to sell them? I want them to get a good start and make sure they are healthy and happy before they go on their way, but our space is very limited at the moment. But, I'd like to put the emphasis on the fact that THEIR HEALTH AND WELL-BEING come first!

The more pressing matter of the two is the eating thing. It's not as thought they are listless or anything...they are seemingly healthy and vivacious and are scooting around and exploring....they are just frightened of their dinner (Am I that bad a cook??? Jk!) Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Ps- Sorry to those that have been waiting for pictures...the camera is out of order. (more accurately, the camera is fine, but the computer program for it is out of order...)

They usually should start eating within a week or close to it. They have to use up the little bits of yolk still left in their bellies from the egg. About the waiting to sell them id wait at least 3 to 5 weeks to make sure the little dudes are really started out well and are eating like champions.

Thanks! I'm relieved about the' one week to eat' thing...I was getting a little worried!

isn't that a little young still? my babies were 10 weeks when i bought them.

My reasoning is just that some automatically are gonna grow like weeds of the start and some arent as fast in growth. You can wait a bit long but 3 would be a bare minimum for what im giving. If they are eating well for a few weeks straight with no problems they should be getting close to be able to sell.

Hi there.....

I would probably wait until they are 6-8 weeks before selling them, especially as females grow slower than males....the females would not be ready to go at 3-5 weeks. Much safer to wait an extra week or two and give them a really good start. Plus, you don't want customer's buying dragons and losing them because they are too small. It's heartbreaking when you buy a dragon and end up losing it because you bought it too young as they need so much more care, feedings, water, more heat etc.

Megan is right... 6 weeks is the minimum age for selling baby dragons. Usually the rule is 6 weeks or 6 inches, whichever comes first.

Thanks guys....As I said, their welfare comes first! (Was happy to find I get to hang onto them for a while) They are looking so good. They've already grown, and stated eating, and are being really perky and cute! It's weird, they don't look alot like their parents...I was expecting lots of patternlessness and pale yellows with highlights....but what I'm seeing is a pale background with bright red, orange and BLUE highlights...I'm not talking lavender here. I'm talking BLUE...it's so cool looking. There's one that looks really different from the rest. It's very pastel and 'smooth' looking...I can't describe it. Very pretty. Anyway....I'm blabbering on like an irritatingl proud grandmother. Thanks for listening!!!!!
