Hey,
I'm really to all the herps and stuff but I think I'm not old enough or rich enough to take care of all the herps I would like to keep, but I've recently gotten out of the herp scene and from my breeder mice I've gotten into small animals. So what I was asking was if anybody had any info or good websites realting to the care/and or sale of small animals (hamsters, rats, mice, gunea pigs,) any help would be appricaited. Don't anyone be madd at me, I'm not abandoneing the herp field I'm seriosly thinking about getting a tokay gecko soon. I just think all the care and money thats has to go into taking care of herps is just to much trouble for me right now. I got read of my BP BS GS GI and now want to get cute little fuzzies who dont cost so much, so any help I would really like. I just got my naked mole rat which I neame paedro.

I don't think anyone should be mad at all, in fact it is admirable that you are repsonsible enough to realize that it isn't in yours or the animals best interest right now :) Too bad there weren't more people willing to admit that to themselves :(

Sorry I cannot be of more help with the actual question, but there are quite a fw people on here I know will be able to point you in the right way ;)

well small animals can cost just as much as herps. I know a Guine pigs require ALOT of space, Have to have their "toys" and "Hides" in the middle of the cage so they can make "laps" around it!

pet rats require atleast the MIN of 1.5 cubic ft per rat (it is preferable that 2 cubic ft per rat) so a 24"x30"x24" would be fine for 2 rats.......They eat meat and veggies, and like to have ALOT of time out of the cage.

You shouldn't use pine, cedar or saw dust with them becuase they have sensitive noses.

Here is a WONDERFUL pet rat website!

http://www.fancy-rat.co.uk/home/

It's a UK website but they have TONS of great info and they have a cage calculator on there.

for rodents www.goosemoose.com/rfc/ is a good site, though some people are a little over the top there (like spending 1000 dollars on a vet for a 3 year old rat)

I wonder who determined and how they determined the space required for a rat.
