Well my first attempt at mouse breeding has suffered massive failure to the tune of my male killing the female. No biggie to me though, cause now hes food.

Next time it'll be 1.3 instead of 1.1.

If at first you don't succeed try, try again.

No sense in keeping mice with cannibalistic tendencies in your colonies...

Exactly. ;)

Yes it was female.

I haven't fed off the male yet. It's a really cool looking mouse. Brown with BIG black eyes. Very spastic though, and man can it JUMP!

why do I always read about mice cannabalizing? And not rats. I hardly EVERY hear about rats eating each other. And if it is it's about them eating the babies. I have found 3 dead babies (still born) and ended up taking them out and feeding them off. They were out long enough to start to get cold. But thats about it.

Sapphire; simple, mice = evil
rats = nice and fluffy and happy and friendly and smart.

I've seen rats go cannibal on adults. Usually about protecting children or territory.

happy and fluffy? your not talking about MY breeders! my beige female bit me for the 3rd time today. Thats it, after she has this last litter (if she's pregnant) she's snake food.
And she bit me right NEXT to my vein in my wrist!

Now my PET rats on the other hand come when I call their names! And I am hoping to get a Dumbo baby before we leave.

You gave her three chances? Wow girl, you're understanding. I've been bitten by one rodent in the year+ that I've been breeding; it was a mouse, and it met an untimely demise shortly thereafter. Also, maybe it's just me, but my breeders/feeders and my pet rats have the same temperment and disposition. I would feel totally comfortable giving a child one of my feeders as a pet.

I have no kids, so I'm not to worried about that, and I would rather have it from day one and be able to socialise it. And I understand how they can be defensive. She just got her life saved because she is a beige rat, and I just picked up a black "long" haired, male dumbo and want to see what the babies look like.

I have 3 male mice and not once have I had any attack each other. They all breed fine. Now my dwarf hamsters on the other hand, they are evil. I wish I had a snake big enough to eat them.
