i went to our local **** hole of a pet shop yesterday to buy some more calcium for the iguana and the lady that works there asked me what kind of lizards i have so i told her everything i had.. and she asked me something that ive never heard of happening before and did a search on the net for it and cant find anything.. well anyway she said she bought her son a chameleon (didnt know what kind it was .. just said it was a chameleon) and they kept it for a few weeks and it was fine and all then one morning she went to feed it and it was just a dried up shell. she said the day before it was fine. now im worried that one day im gonna walk in to feed one of my chams and find a dried up shell.. i honestly dont think they took very well care of it considering she doesnt take care of the animals in her shop all that well either. but anyway as a worried momma of two chams anyone have any insight to what may have happened to hers that i can look for and avoid in mine"?

Sounds like BS to me....... How can a reptile dehydrate that fast...... If I was you I would not listen to one thing she tells you......

I agree, they forsure just didnt spray the tank or probably give it anything to eat at that...I bet you it was dead for like 2 days before they even noticed!

The only way I can see a cham dry out that fast as to be mummified, is that it was a very young baby - a couple weeks old at most. Even one a few months old would have more body mass and not dry out in a few hours.

i thought it was mostly bs too, but eventhough i have been keeping herps for several years i still consider my self a beginner because i learn new things everyday. i cant be too careful.
lol when we left the shop my bf was like "i think that lady is a lunatic.. it probably she and she found the skin and threw the lizard away when she threw the stuff for it away" .. which i honestly think she probably did.

What might have happened, was that she probly bought the chameleon at the pet store, and was just barly keeping the darn thing alive. It is probly a veiled chameleon, and mayb that day she didnt spray just killed the litte guy, she probly didnt have a dripper or anything, this is what happens when people dont research about these things. There could be so many possiblitys, maybe she had a 150 Watt bulb in a tank??? I can find it possible. If i was to put a veiled chameleon in a tank with 150 watt, and just sprayed once, and left the lagith on till i went to bed, i wouldnt be suprised if it died. This is just what i think:p Maybe she didnt feed it, untill she found it dead? they had it for a couple of weeks, so its possible

it's possible if she was a complete and total moron (sounds like one anyway) Possibly had a young chameleon setup with an extremely hot basking spot, and basically cooked the cham. It can happen, and happen quite easily.
