I've seen other "black backs" that weren't this black before. What do you think of this guy? Would you call him a black back?
I'm hoping to selectively breed for white back albinos using this guy.

Gorgeous ball!! I'd call it a black back. It seems to have almost the same pattern as our "black back". :)
I thought Black Backs are genetic and without any spots or markings at all on their backs?
Not saying either or on yours, just need clarification.

I think only a few people have a genetic line of black backs. Even some of those genetic ones aren't much more black back then mine. Most black backs out there are the product of selective breeding.
It's sort of like hypo kenyans, there is none. No genetically receive ones like as in corns or boas anyway. However, you still see people labelling really bright ones as hypos. When in fact their black is not reduced their orange is really bright which is not what makes a hypo a hypo.

Not a stripe, stripes are striped balls and the stripe is gold, or what ever colour the ball is. Black backs have no conecting bands and as little pattern on the spin as possible. There are variying degrees. Personally I'm hesitant to call this guy a black back because like you, I think of them as a wide black area along the snakes back with no pattern on the back.

PS
mykee, I'm blushing;)
Genetic or not, still a VERY impressive Ball. Good luck on the albino project. :)

Trevor,
Looking at that snake I don't really think it will be genetic. I have an awesome black stripe female here (currently in around 4000 grams) who isn't genetic. She's produced in around 26 offspring for me with all of them looking normal. If that snake was in my collection I would just say it was a nice looking normal until proven otherwise. She is a nice looking snake. Breed her to an albino and hope for the best.

Thanks Corey. I know it won't be genetic. He is one of Don Patterson's albino hets. I'm going to selectively breed for as white a back as possible. A friend of mine bought female black back from Todd this past summer. We'll be pairing them up too.
Cheers,
Trevor
