chameleon having eye problems

I sprayed the cage this morning and I gave a few light sprays toward him, and he didn't seem to mind too much, but afterwards I noticed he was rubbing his eye against the branch he was standing on, and it looked like there was a big air bubble or something underneath the skin around his right eye. He can open it and move it around still, but I thought it looked a little weird.

I'll try to get a picture if it stays like that.. but anyway.. is that normal or does it sound like a problem?

I wonder if he just got some water in his eye or something

Some times they will rub there eyes and that bubble was his eye ball under the lid. give him a really good watering make sure he has a chance to clean out his eye. lol shouldent be a problem as long as he dosent do this offen could just be soem water in there that he dident like..

reverse osmosis water? I have been using tap water, is that a bad idea do you think? I didn't think it'd be a big deal, since, although it is CB, it wouldn't receive such pure water in the wild, so I assume they have a natural defense against un-pure water. But I do understand where the minerals and stuff in tap water might burn his eye, compared to how it would feel to get pure water in it. I wasn't spraying hard either, I only use a very light mist when I spray him with it.

I use tap water hasent been a problem yet I have seen chams rub there eyes even with ro water they just get too much in there and rub it to get it out. but im sure that it is better.

Chams actually need some water in their eyes occasionally, from what I've been told. It helps wash out dust or anything else that might get in there. They also do it when they shed, though that doesn't seem to be the case here.

i imagine there would be more bacteria/etc in wild water, but the in terms of chemicals, i'm assuming rain forest rain water would be a bit more pure, and reverse osmosis water would be a bit more along those lines.

but i'm just saying, if you wabt/need a gallon, come and pick it up. we're not sweating it on this end.

oo i c, well it tap water is fine for our eyes i dont see the problem ive been using tap water aswell. But sometimes my chameleon would rub it eye

My panther does this almost every time I spray her. She bulges out her eye under the lid. It looks like a balloon ready to pop. It corrects every time though. Just takes a while (10min?). She's rubbed her eye too.
On a different note, eyes are one thing you don't wait around to see if they will get better. If it continues throughout the day and really looks abnormal, consider taking him to the vet. They can flush his eye and look in there for debris that may scratch it. Also, if you have a ficus plant - try and keep an eye out for him rubbing on that cause he can get the sap in his eye and thats really bad.

I personally ONLY use RO water for ALL my herps and my one T. I used to use tap then spring, but i did hella research and no thank you. I even drink RO water and am going to get a unit so i can filter out my own RO water.

Here's some sites that helped me. Now granted i was to late to save my leos but i still have uninfected herps and will never give tap or bottled water again even if someone was "twisting"my arm. This is something i belive strongly in but do not really "preach" about it to other people. It's just part of my practice and will ALWAYS be.

BTW, there are more parasites than just crypto swimming around in tap and bottled water. Also bottled water has the EXACT same guidelines as tap.

There's just a few, theres so much info if you do a simple search on parasites in tap water or crypto in tap water.

And RO water is NOT expensive for 10 gallons i pay 10.54 USD a little less than bottled water and it's purer. Going to pick up another 10 gallons this weekend, if your intersted you can call around to speciallty salt water fish stores they usually sell it.

my roommate and i are both saltwater geeks, so we picked up a until for around 125 USD on ebay. it's a nice thing to have it when you need it, especially for the tanks, but i'm sure the herps appreciate it as well. i don't drink it myself though. it doesn't come out nearly as cold as the tap water, and i'm all about cold drikning water.

I put it in a pitcher and stick it in the ice box so i always have cold water.

haha.. thanks for all the info.. I'll consider the RO option.. Come to think of it I don't drink a whole lot of straight up water, myself.
