Hello all, I was bored and thought I'd ask you guys for your opinions on a certain subject: What snakes should I get at the expo? I have 250$ to spend, and It's burning a hole in my pocket!
So far, my thoughts have been along these lines: #1- baby BCI, and as many baby corns as I can afford after the fact, #2- strictly baby corn snakes, #3- baby BCC, provided it's cheap and available, #4- strictly adult corn snakes, #5- baby BRB, #6- pair of baby BCI's (again, providing that I am able to afford it) #7- go over the monetary limit and splurge!!!
I REALLY want some variety of boa, so I'm probably gonna end up buying a BCI, but my female corn will be ready to breed next year so I'm also wondering if I should invest in an adult male corn...and I definitely want to breed corns at some point...I just can't make up my mind! I've even been wondering whether I'd like to grab myself a lizard...I imagine I'll come home with something interesting, in any case!
P.S. I'm only guess-timating on the prices, so if you see something totally off just tell me, "You can't afford that!" :D

Is the $250 for animals only or does that inculde enclosure(s) as well?

Well, I have a couple of 20 gal aquariums hanging around that I'd be using as "nurseries" of sorts for any boas, of course I'd have to build an adult-sized enclosure eventually, but I won't deduct that cost, as it'll be at least a couple of months before I'd have to build it, and I do have a 3'x3'x3' waiting in the wings...the only thing I'd need to buy related to husbandry would be some incandescant bulbs and some small rubbermaids (for the corns and/or boa hides, etc...) which probably wouldn't cost me much more than 50$ give or take, depending on what animals I did pick up...so, I'll say 250$ for the animals alone...I can afford the rest on the side :)
Oh, and if anyone notices a flaw in my housing plans, please speak up, I'd appreciate any advice

not bulbs, bottom heating. Basking behavior in most (not all) snakes is observed and mis-interperted, the heat the animals are seeking is coming from the heated material they lay on. The animals use the heat to warm their inner organs, penetration through the heavy back muscle and cartilage takes too long.

Thanks, Rev...I was actually thinking of throwing a heat pad into the equation. Luckily beyowulf owes me a new heat pad, since her rabbit chewed through the cord of my old one... Just curious, what do you use for bottom heating with your adult boas? Pig blankets? Heat tape?

You SHOULD be able to get an adult corn and a baby CB Bci for around $275-350. Why not get both? Make the jump and get a Boid, while still matching your current snake so that you can try your hand at breeding and all that jazz.

Jeff, if I can find an adult corn and baby BCI in my price range, I can almost guarantee you that's what'll be coming home :D

It's Sept. 15, the Port Credit show...I just can't wait!!!!
First thing I'll do when I set foot in the house is post up a storm here!...hmm, maybe I should put the snakes away first thing, though... :p

personal human type heat pads go in with my big ones, they can curl and fit on top of them. Plus they are pretty cheap at Wal-Mart lol
