I’m thinking about making trips to San Gabriel Mountains, northern San Diego Co., and Colorado Desert to a variety of photograph amphibians.

The thought had crossed my mind...but I'm an amateur, and not so ambitious! I'm sticking to my immediate area (where there are some great sites, but I'm not too sure about the variety of species represented).

Where are you at and what animals do you see in your local area?

I'm in Santa Barbara. I posted the pictures of the Slender Salamanders and Ensatina (correctly identified thanks to you!) Here's a list I've found of some local amphibians (though I must confess that I'm more interested in reptiles, esp. snakes). The amphibians are just holding me over for now. :)

Arboreal Salamander (Aneides lugubris)
Arroyo Toad (Bufo microscaphus)
Bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana)...an introduced species
California Newt (Taricha torosa torosa)
California Slender Salamander (Batrachoseps attenuatus)
California Treefrog (Hyla cadaverina)
Ensatina or Eschscholtz's Salamander (Ensatina eschscholtzi)
Garden Slender Salamander (Batrachoseps major)
Pacific Treefrog (Hyla regilla)
Western Spadefoot (Scaphiopus hammondi)
Western Toad (Bufo boreas)
