I have noticed that one of my male(probed 8-9 subcaudal scales) borneo does this muscles spaz or twitch from time to time. He will be laying there and then he quickly twitches. I took him out this morning and he seemed fine. Temp and humidity are great. At first I thought it was just because he was in shed, but that has passed. Let me know what you think. thanks NIck

I noticed mine do that before.. alost like a hiccup. I noticed it when she was in her moist box and I removed the lid. Maybe like a n-n-n-nervouse t-t-t-twitch. I'm not sure. Anyone else have ideas?

Is it a twitch or kinda like a puff of the body. My guy likes to kinda make a noise just when i first disturb him and then kinda stops. He has twictched once but most of the time i think its just a little threat display.
Cheers,
Ryan

Isn't twitching a type of breeding behavior? I don't know how big your snake is Nick but if he is and adult male, well he might want some.....lol

If hes a baby, then my SST has done that once or twice before. His body would twitch but not out of control, but as if he was controlling it himself. I thought nothing of it then but now I'm curious to what it might be.

Is it like he is flinching at something or twitching in a direction, or is it sort of like he is hyperventilating? If it is sort of like hyperventilating, that is normal behaviour with Bloods/STP when approached for some reason. This is one of the reasons I consider them to be much more sensitive temperament-wise than many other snakes.

I would say mine does more of a hiccup type move. Maybe 2 in a row. She seems fine when I then take her out, just that initial surprise of her lid being taken off the moist box. I don't do that anymore, I now take the whole box out and let her come out herself.
ax.

I've had that happen with several snakes in the past.
The two i clearly remember was a 2 year old borneo male, and an adult female brongersmai that was looking gravid.

I would describe it as short continuous spasms (usually in a circular motion, within a hide or something with substrate) my observations anyways.
Always stopped when disturbed....

i would compare it to when restless dogs, flip over on there back, and start rubbing there backs on the the surface with there legs up in the air...lol
they snort, wiggle, twitch, etc...

I have no clue why it is done, perhaps something to do with the cooler weather and breeding....

All i can say is that it is somewhat normal, and isn't cause for alarm.
