Heya. Healthy egg eating snakes are whippy and will bite and act like a saw scaled viper. Even though they bite, it's a pretty useless defence considering they dont have any teeth, lol.

Sounds interesting :)
Do you just feed them chicken eggs, or have some quail roosting?

I have a Southern Brown Egg Eater (Dasypeltis inornata) - there's a picture of him in my gallery. As far as temperament goes, it varies from snake to snake, as you might expect. My snake (Eggbert) is fairly feisty, and does a lot of huffing and puffing (hissing) when I first take him out. He doesn't do the "scale rasping" that some egg eaters are known for, and he's also never bitten. He calms down significantly after a couple minutes of handling, which is also the case with every other egg eater I've heard about.

Contact me (mlsinclair@hotmail.com) if you'd like some more specific info. I can also direct you to some UK people who may be able to help if you're interested in buying an egg eater. I think they're amazing snakes, and find them quite easy to care for, assuming you have a source for appropriately-sized eggs (which I can also provide you info. about). Hope this helps.

They usually don't get much bigger than about 3', and are slender snakes. Eggbert is almost 2 years old and about as big around as a finger, and about 2' or so (he hasn't been measured lately, so this is a guess).

My name is Michelle, if I haven't mentioned that already. I realized that my name on here probably makes me sound like I'm male. :)

Yeah, they are AWSOME snakes if you can get a healthy one. or if you can make them healthy. heres a feeding pic of mine.

this is the east african version. unlike the normal african egg eating snake, this one has much more of a pattern.

i used to have the same species jordon has up there....they are pure bluff when it comes to defense...they actually make a sound and open there mouth...kinda like they are spitting at you.....mine did take interest in quail eggs...but it couldnt break the egg while it was in its throat...my advice to anyone that gets one...the bigger...the better

I used to have a D. scabra....great disposition, and a pleasure to own. I would, likewise, be happy to lay my hands on another one.

That would be a Polypterus endlicheri endlicheri, or 'saddled bichir', displaying the external gill-structures that this family of ancient fishes has in its juvenile state. I have nearly 55 Polypterids of various species, and have recently written a book on the subject that hopefully will see print this year.

Here is a full-body photo of the same fish:

Or at least an editor, I'm sure what ever you have "ritten" should be edited. :)

neat, reminds me of a mudd puppy (i think thats what we call them) lol

Egg eaters are definitly awesome (did someone say NO teeth?! lol), but i don't think I could have a couple of nesting quails in my house. lol :)
