Timor/Ackie

Hi,
Are timor monitors have similar care as ackies? How big do they grow? Are there any CB ones, or just WC? Will there be any at the show?

Size is the least difference between these two monitors.

There are some basic needs that apply to all monitors (basking temperature, need for hide spots etc), but beyond that there are individual species differences.

Most timors will be wild caught, all ackies will be CB. Ackies calm down easily, timors usually remain nervous. Ackies love it hot and dry, with a dirt/sand substrate, getting their humidity from within their burrows, Timors prefer a bit more humidity with leaf litter and dirt.

Your best bet would be to post a similar question on some of the other monitor forums, I am sure there are a few people out there keeping both that could answer your question better than I have.

Crocdoc is right. I keep both. I have an adult c/b pair of Timors that I have had for about 7 or 8 months, I regularly see the male (took about four months to "feel safe") but have only seen the female for about 30 seconds.

They are timid and arboreal. They need lots of tight hides, small diameter cork tubes are ideal.

There is no real comparison with Ackies, totally different beast.

Hes a big bugger at 30 inches the last time we checked, he was the oldest of my monitors at around 4 years old. Those 2 species have completely different attitudes, even their female is flighty but friendly (unusual).
Both species like to dig and burrow, but ackies are on the move alot where as timors like to hide almost all of the time. Ackies are outgoing energetic and love to dig endlessly as well are all CBB, where as timors are almost exclusively WC. I kept them in the same dirt but the timor had fake plants etc and a much bigger water dish.
