Does any one know what the 5 largest Torts are? I think I know a few of them but I am not to sure, I also would like to know the availability of them as well, I am sure most can not be purchased due to being on the brink of extinction.
Thanks alot
Kim
The Aldabran Tortoise, Galapagos Tortoise, Sulcata Tortoise, Leopard Tortoise, not sure what the fifth largest is. All that I have seen for sale are the sulcatas and leopard torts. Not sure as to where you could purchase them either.

input Burmese mountain tortoise(Manouria emys emys) between Sulcata and leopard and you have your 5 in order.
All of them can be obtained legally, although Galapagos are CITES 1 and would need some extra paperwork...
order of easiest to hardest to obtain Sulcata, Leopard, Burmese, aldabra, Galapagos.
All are being captive bred. Burmese are the most subject to the Wild caught trade lately.

Arguable...the largest individuals on record were Galapagos.

Hello Chris and Toirtis, actually you are both right. The Galapagos Tortoise is the largest, based on physical size, Tortoise on record. But the Aldabra is easily the heaviest Tortoise on record. The Aldabra is even listed in the Guiness Book of World Records as the heaviest Tortoise species. I hope that this helps to clear up the confusion.
Take care, Johnny.
