What kind of Digital Camera do you use?

I'm in the market for a new Digital Camera. I am looking to spend about $500 cnd. which basically puts me in the 3mp range. I have a few features I would really like it to have. The first being some control over the focus. The second is a macro feature. I have been looking into the Kodak DX4390 (I think that's the model #) and the Canon Powershot A70.

I just thought I'd ask people who obviously do the type of photography I'll be doing. Does any one use either of these models or recommend a differnt model?

I use the Canon A40, which is pretty close to the A70 and the pictures, features/functions are great! Got it for like 400 bucks or something a year ago. It even takes movies with sound! Its cool..

I use the Canon A70, best bang for your buck. I think the A40 is more like the A60 (same megapixels), features are all pretty similar throughout the A30/40/60/70/80 line (just differing in megapixels and a few added bells and whistles with the newer lines).

Tim, I've got the Kodak 4360, and it's a good camera but not so warm on the colors. But I haven't played around with the settings much yet.
The sharpness is excellent in most cases but I find that at higher resolutions there's a bit of digital smudging going on. Possible compression artifacting. When sized down to 640x480 it's not noticeable.

Shows the macro capability (That sucker is only about 4 cm long) and the picture was taken in pitch black, the A70 has an AF lamp for low-light situations.

I'm also looking at the Nikon Coolpix 4300 now.... I think the Kodak is out. The Canon and Nikon have the manual focus which I almost NEEEEED. I'm a control freak! :D

Canon A70 is the BEST bang for your buck Tim. Go to CNET.com and check out the product reviews. They are usually bang-on.

Tim...Canon for one simple reason now that your narrowing it down. Canon is the best mfg for having accessories that will cross fit almost any of theyre cameras. You may be able to get lenses (especially Macro) that fit higher end Canon models that will directly screw onto yours. This greatly improves your pictures without having to upgrade to a higher end Camera. This is one of the reasons why Jeff and I chose to use Canon cameras only. He has the G2 and i have the G3. These are a bit more pricey then what your looking at...but alot of the canons at $500 have come down extensively and feature alot of the same modes ours do. For that price range you'll still get a great point and shoot camera which will still have some pretty good manual modes. Good luck with your decision...remember Canon is the official camera of www.ssnakess.com....one day i hope they will give me some free stuff for always saying that..lmao!!! :D

I like our sony mavica cd 300, allows manual focus, macro and saves to cheap media - 10 cdrw's are about 20-30... that's about 2.8 gigs of storage. The lense is particularly good too.

We are leaning towards the Canon A70. We really like the G3 but it's out of our price range right now. I need to hatch out a few albino balls first. :D

I think we'll get the A70 tomorrow... I'm sure I'll let you all know. ;)

my dad swears by canan, he just got the Canon EOS Rebel, 6.(something) megapixel with 1 gig memory :O ..

I am very happy with my olympus c 4000 zoom.

I would recommand an olympus c 4000 ultra zoom which is now around 500 cdn. or even the c 5050 (but the 5050 is around 700$). If you want a good webcote that does review on webcams go to this link.

I love the olympus for it's options and especially for the life on batteries it has, nothing I hate more than having to carry many batteries.

I use a sony cyber shot, but i have the 3.2 megapixel one...you can get the 5.0 one but its expensive

I use a sony dsc-717 but its pricey. I also like cannon but i would check out some pawnshops cause you never know what people will sell when they get hurtin'. Just an idea.

I'm using a 3 year old outdated Olympus C3030 Zoom, 3.1 mp.

It's easy to use, works great and doesn't eat batteries for dinner.
