CANADA EXPERIENCES

Hi there everyone:

THIS IS A THREAD I WROTE BEFORE AND THOUGHT IT APPLIES HERE AS WELL.

To start off I really enjoy this new forum (new to me at least) especially the BOI simply because people who plan on dealing or buying animals from other people can get some research done here on the people involved. Educated decisions and contacts are made better because you’re more informed on what you are about to do with the people involved.

My past experiences on purchases with Canadian dealers and breeders so far has been rather good. I try and do alot of research on who I am about to deal with, which in sometimes makes me a little late on a bid on a specific animal, but if you rush something without proper research it may be positive or it can become negative. Like I said before so far as for Canadian deals in my experience things are good.

I have dealt with people all across Canada and USA and will only discuss in this post Canada breeders and dealers. Being I am in Northern Manitoba just about everyone else is at equal distance in each direction. Manitoba some great people into reptiles and soon some will open there collections to the market with breeding planned for 2004 and on. But like anything in life there is good and there is bad, so again just do your research before buying anything.

Here are my experiences or thoughts on people in Canada I have dealt with in one way or another. I am trusted by many of my Manitobans to help them achieve and improve there collections either through my experiences or contacts with people in Canada. Listed here are either people I purchased from, will purchase from or have on other people’s behalf.

BIGDAN:

Dan to me is a great person well knowledgeable on reptiles and in my case especially boas. I meet Dan a few years back at a Calgary show I drove to (16 hours) and was very happy with our chats and his collection he had there for showing purposes. He deals in geckos as well and has a wide variety in that species as well. At that time I was so into trying to find Albino Boas and he had 1 there that I was about to pay anything (within reason….lol). Although my search was for Albinos and a few other species, I only walked away with a few more common animals. But from that show I meet other dealers and breeders that I will list below and the experiences. A year later I saw Dan with gorgeous Hog Isle Boas and picked up a few. A year after that the Coral Albino Boas were available and there was no way I was going to lose a shot at them. My experiences with Dan were all very professional and great. If you live in Alberta and want to deal with someone who knows there animals, tries to give them proper care, has loads of information on just about any boa (my main interest) and has fair market value animals, then try out Dan at: stanno@telus.net

HENRY PIORUN:

Henry to me is also a great person, having some rather unique animals which I also meet at my first Calgary show and then Red Deer and Calgary again. Henry tries to meet your demands with information and photos on your interest of purchase. One of the great things I like about Henry is that at every show I have been at he sexes your current purchase of his and anyone else’ s animals at the shows, talk about peace of mind when your buying something and taking that dealers word, well with Henry sexing them your are set. From Henry we picked up over the years Malaysian Red Blood Pythons, Surinam Redtail Boas, Blood/Borneo cross Pythons, and other boas. All these animals made us over the years very happy and some are being prepared for breeding now. Negotiating and dealing with Henry is great to, if you do it in a professional respectful manner I think any animal sale can be made to make both parties happy. Henry is easily reached at: piorun@sprint.ca

DON PATTERSON:

Don is another great person to deal with. Don has a really nice collection that he breeds and sells babies and others on the Canadian market and worldwide. Our first Brazilian Rainbow Boas came from Don and my research on him there past customers and internet. Never meet Don in person but the phone calls and the way we completed our business made me very happy to get animals from him. Also having a lot of knowledge on his collection and is willing to help you out with his animal purchases or something in your current collection you have concerns about. If you live or want to order from a BC Breeder Don and Henry are your choices as well as others. Contact Don at: donpreptiles@hotmail.com

CHRIS MARSHELL:

Chris is on my eastern part of Canada from me. Having a great collection and really nice animals up for sale at times. Many times in which my lengthy research lost me chances on certain animals but that is part of research and business the early bird gets the worm so to say. Chris provided me with a chance at my first Salmon Boa and increased my collection with unique boa morphs. With many chat messages on MSN and on the phone anyone can achieve peace of mind and pick up some rather great animals from him. He has a large collection in boas and pythons and more which can fit any collector’s dreams. I have never meet Chris in person but trusted him enough through our chats and my research and questions I asked on the animals and his life in this hobby. 2004 will have some promising animals from Chris and if you’re into getting something new and different contact Chris at: chrismarshell128@hotmail.com

KAHANE – GENERASIANEXOTICS:

Kahane from Ontario a breeder and dealer with some really nice animals was my first option in getting Albino Boas. The research went well and being my only option at the time for Albino Boas. We discussed the whole deal over the phone and repeated it all through emails. At the time Kahane was having personal issues which many people noticed and thought he had disappeared out of the Canadian market. I believe he explained himself on a few forums and if you do the research and contact him you can find out those reasons for yourself. Our deal was great but during those times I was a bit worried but I understood Kahane’ s complications and went with the flow on it. The animals spoke for themselves. Being my first set of Albinos and one of my most expensive purchases at the time made me a happy stressed out father…lol. These guys are growing like weeds and have so much character and can stuff rats like nothing I ever seen before. All my animals are great feeders but these Albinos don’t waste time playing with there food, its simple grab and stuff. Kahane is rebuilding himself and his name and if you’re interested in just about any reptile contact him at: generasianexotics@sympatico.ca

SCALES ZOO
TODD CONSTABLE
JEFF FAVELLE
COREY WOODS
CRANWILL CAPTIVE BREED
MARKUS JAYNE
HAMILL REPTILES

These are just a few other breeders and dealers we have dealt with for our Manitoban friends or will do so in the future to add unique animals to our collection. All these other people I have researched and heard very good comments and stories on. I would like to give more information but until I deal more directly on them as I have with the above breeders and dealers I can not state a true experience of my own, but 2004 will have some of those experiences soon enough.

As stated before for anyone thinking on these breeders and dealers listed in this post as a person you want to buy and order animals from, simply do your research, ask concerning questions, document everything, communicate via email and phone calls build your trust level, get past history from them and customers, treat the situation with the up most respect, and be professional and respect the deal and the people involved. From this you too will have a positive experience with a great deal and great animals to be proud off.

This post is simple my experiences and how they were dealt with in a proper respectful manner achieving a positive goal for all involved. In no way or manner is it promoting any individual as easy advertising or glory gaining. Simply these listed here were great people to me and it was a positive situation I wanted all here to learn from and research on there own. I may have missed many others that are true to the hobby of providing quality animals. But since I never dealt with them it would not be fair to say something without any proof. But this post is to inform and anyone else wishing to add onto it with there experiences with Canada breeders and dealers may do so. In this manner anyone and everyone can come to this post and do research off it from all our good or bad experiences in one extensive post.

Take care everyone, love your animals and give them the very best and provide the best home possible for them.

Thank you for taking the time to read my lengthy post and learn anything from it.

Cya…

Great post Tony!!! Unfortunately because of this great divide we call Canada, everything must be shipped. It's great to know that there are realiable people out there with great snakes. Keep up the good work everyone!!

EVERYONE:

Was looking up some posts and I am surprized a positive post did not get as much hype as some negative ones or just way off topic ones. I know this is an 02-05-04 post but the people I dealt with deserved some credit and thought more people would reply to that ands even add new names as well as some input on the ones already listed.

Oh well my 2 cents, funny how good posts get buried and others thrive.

Maybe cause this isn't the Board of Inquiry.. If you want to talk about your dealings, good or bad, we urge you to use Fauna's Canadian BOI..
