We've just got a new boa, we think its a common but not a 100% sure. We'll post some pics asap.
Its nearly 7ft long and 1ft around.
We were told its a male....but no sign of spurs??????
And he/she hasn't had them taken out.
Our yearling common boa has got spurs which are clearly visible and boy do they hurt if they catch you're skin...lol
Are there any other ways of telling whether its male or female?
Thanks Ruth
Get someone to probe the snake .. that easy

apparantly they had the boa probed.......I'll have a word with a breeder I know to double check it.
I just thought most male common boas had spurs
they do....They should. they are usualy a bit more pronounced in males. Look a little closer, then take him or her to a breeder who knows what he's doing. I suspect this animal is so fat that you can,t find the spurs. A foot around sounds a bit to fat for a seven footer.

He/she was only feed 1 extra large rat once a month which I thought wasn't a lot for a snake his size.....I was going to give it either 2 extra large rats a month or a small rabbit.
The man who had it got rid because he was worried how big it would get, if it was male I don't think it would grow much more.
He had it out every day, but only kept it in a 4x1.5x1.5.
We've put it in a 4x2.5x2 while we have a bigger viv built.
He doesn't look fat he's 20lbs in weight, and about 4 years old, if anyone could give me an age/weight/length guide I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Ruth
