I just picked up 2 male normal color corns, and on one of them, there isn't much (hardly any) black around the dark patches (saddles) Anyway, here's a pic. :)

looks normal to me, perhaps it could be het for hypo and is showing hints of it, then again it could just develop its black more as it sheds
It is still quite a beauty
I'm with normal, I don't expect to see those faint black stripes that I can see on this one, with hypos.
Most het animals won't show 'hints' of their hetness.

I think there's a lot of room for discussion on the use of the term hypomelanistic. While it would mean "reduced black", there's obviously "degrees" of reduction. Anyway, that said, yours does show some reduction from the norm. I have 3 w.c. ones from around my area and they are as hypo as any c.b. Here's what I would call an extreme hypo. One of my females I've posted before]http://www.printroom.com/_vti_bin/ViewImage.dll?userid=crimsonking&album_id=83666&image_id=70&show=image¶m=21972

The range of almost any morph is usually large, ventral checkering is not really a reliable method my normal motley has brown checkering. Your animal has reduced black but breeding is the best method of determining genetics, breeding to an Amber, Phantom, or Ghost will let you know in the F1 if your animal is a hypo

I guess on the motley I should clarify that what checkering she has is brown, just one in her top 2/3 body and a back 1/3 normally checkered. And motley in corns is known for a hypo type effect in normals but a hypo motley is visually distinct.
Lets see a pic of your hypo Reverend!

I will hoping to get the minolta s404 this week for mom's wedding but may have to wait until pay day at the end of the month. I'll post picks of all or most of my animals when I do with acknowledgment to all the breeders I can remember lol
Plain belly is the diagnostic sign of motelism, Rev. Perhaps your corn is exhibiting some other trait that causes some of the checkering to be non existent. There are plenty of corns are there, labeled plain bellied, that are not motely.

she has a motley pattern for over 1/2 her length and has the side stripe down much of it. However the pattern then changes to normal and on the vent the checkering starts at about that point.
