What a lady!

A little shy, but when she decides to go for it, watch out boys!

You wretched, wretched man!!

Infecting us all with the pokie bug...;)

Yep, she's a looker! The coloration is intense, is she nearing maturity now? And, do all poecilotheria get as large as the P.regalis (6 inches)? You must just hug yourself for joy when you look in that one's tank...

Carry on, Obi-Wan Martinobi, you are Canada's only hope...
for CB P.metallicas

Oh, and, how's Jewel doing?
heh, heh, heh

LOL, Dragoon, I am not Canada's only hope as I know of two ther hobbyists with P. metallica in Canada...

The most amazing thing is that the picture does not do justice at all to it's beauty... you should see those for real under the right lighting... it is an instant jaw dropper...

So you think I should try to breed them? That is weird, it never crossed my mind!LOL

She is far from being mature, probably in a year or so... this is my biggest female of the three that I have... the male, I am slowing him down, in case I cannot get some new ones... at least I will attempt inbreeding...

P. rufilata holds the Poke record for the biggest species, P. ornata is pretty close too... I do not know what is teh maximum size of P. metallica though...

Jewel is doing great! he he

Take care

Take care

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the info... still... a spider that blue the size of an adult P. regalis is destined to be impressive!LOL

Most of the pictures I have seen of adults seem to have the blue less striking, I am looking forward to see if this is only due to the pictures being taken long time after molts...

Yeah, I have noticed the same thing (esp. pics from Ricks site) Im thinking youre right about the molting thing. Possibly older individuals as well....

How many females do you have Martin??
If everything goes as planned, I will be picking up a couple slings of the new bloodline in a few days. With my luck they will both be males.....but that would be good right :D

I have technically three females... I still have to positively confirm, but I am pretty sure...

Those are great news... I hope you will end up with males!LOL Just kidding, at least one female!LOL But hey, think of it, if we end up with three eggsacs of those... it would be nice... in our dreams!

Take care

IF I do get a male, lets hope the first female doesnt make lunch of him before he gets at any of the other females!! hehe

Well, not quite as blue as the P. metallica, but this beauty still qualifies for the thread!

Here is a Homoeomma sp. from Peru... a little female... I love those...

Tarcan

An older picture of the second female I have, this one is pre-molt...

I am looking forward for this one to molt, as she even have the opisthosoma blue, which is really amazing...

I would watch the metallicas if i was breeding them making sure the female wouldnt eat the male. that would really suck

I would think that the spiders move so fast, that there is no real way to protect the male...:(

Is there a way, Martin?? Could they mate through a screen of some sort? Has anyone tried it?

Best wishes with all your projects, I for one, appreciate all the hard work you do to make all these beauties available to the public. Two thumbs up!

Hi D,

Thanks for the kind words...

Actually, with Pokes, the mating ritual can last for hours... I usually leave the male with the female in a big enough enclosure for quite some time... usually all goes well... but this morning I woke up and my female P. regalis was eating breakfast... the male was the breakfast!lol

I know some people tried mating through "fences" but it does not seem to work... People are seem to be always so scarred to lose the male, but that is what he is there for, to mate and if he dies, well too bad that is just the way it is. Even if it is a male P. metallica, it is an expensive loss yes, but that is what is his purpose, better lose him then not mate him...

But a lot of males live much longer then people tend to give them credit for... I have a mature male P. regalis here that has been mature for almost two years and he is still doing great.

Take care

Martin

Not quite as blue as the P. metallica, but here's my little Euathlus pulcherrimaklaasi sling fresh from a molt 3 days ago. It's a tad over an inch.

Hey, my A.versicolor just developed that green head with its last moult...its not quite two inches, I'm guessing. How amazing to see the colors emerge! Growing up slings is like getting presents once a month...I can't wait to see what it looks like next month!

I hope its attitude improves...out of all the cuddly pinktoes I have, that one is a real bi-atch! Why do the gorgeous ones feel they can be biatchy and get away with it... hahahahaha

Here's one of my 4 A. versicolor slings. These guys are fresh out of the sac, very cute. Love those clubby feet!
