hogs, ok for beginner?

Would hogs be OK for a beginner. I've been looking at them and the bps, and I've found that Hogs are excellent feeders, seem to have a good temperament, and IMO look better. Bps seem to not feed as good, have a shy temperament etc etc. What do you guys think. Are they ok for someone starting in snakes? Btw price is not that big of an issue. Also any good breeders who breed hogs and actually have them available for sale (not already reserved).

Hogs are pretty notorious for being very snappy as babes, but most will calm down with fairly regular gentle handling. As long as you are aware of the potential for the babies to be a little on the psychotic side, there is no reason not to get a Hog Isle Boa as a starter.

Most boas are nippy as babies,but will settle down with time. I find with my Hogs that they are sometimes huffy but once in your hands they are fine.
I have lots of ball pythons and a pair of hogs and I think as a first snake the hogs are the way to go.

I've got two hogs and 7 balls and I'd switch those numbers any day. My two hogs are great eaters and have typical calm BCI temperment. Since they don't get much bigger then a ball (usually, peanut not withstanding) and are much easier feeders then I say yes they are an ok choice. Lower temps, not by much though and lower humidity, also not by much. Make them easier to care for.

Well your choices are great as starters, simple anything small as babies has the potential to strike at you, its defensive mood and totally natural. The trick is to show no fear and all boas will calm down with care and handling from you. Do your research in general on boas or pythons and do an educated guess what you would be best with. Since you mentioned ball pythons or Hog Isle Boas. I have both and each has its own neat character. It is not hard to care for each and ball pythons are usually more shy than strikers. Although as for Hogs they being a smaller boa compared to other people choices of getting into larger boas of redtail families and so on.

So simple your 2 choices are great starters of getting into this hobby.
