Here's a pic of my busy Grammostola rosea this morning. I'll let you guess as to what SHE is doing. Here's a hint: She's not getting ready to moult/shed.

Yep, there is only one thing that follows that sort of construction. How long are you going to leave it with her before you pull the sac?
Cheers,

well sh'es still constructing the sac as of now. I'll keep you guys posted as I get some new developpement. Dave, I'll leave the sac with her for apx 2 weeks and then move into an incubator. I wasn't much of the incubator fan before but I lost a couple of pricey sacs to females so I don't take the chance anymore. Oh the plus side, a good friend of mine built an extremly precise incubator, cost him a little under $200. It rotates the sacs and precicely controles the temp and humidity to your reqirements. He can also put up to 3 sacs in at the same time.
Cruciforrm, she won't be terribly "aggressive" unless you try to force the sac away from her as she will tend to "hug" the sac rather than attack. I would however not try to pick her up. Once the sac removed for incubation, she will wander around the terrarium searching for it and pretty much give up after a little while and return to normal everyday life.

Rob,
Was he using the Schultz's "Mechanican Mom" plans?

Dave, I think so, that rings a bell. I know he bought a book to learn to make it. The whole book (pamphlet) were instructions.
Updates: She has layed the eggs and covered them up but hasn't formed the sac as of yet. I didn't take a pic as you don't see much apart from her being skinny and there being a yellow mass under the webbing. Pics will surely come tonight.

Robert,
Yeah, I have a copy as well. I haven't bothered with it, as I'm happy to wait until they can be finished off hammock-style. How long was it from creation until you lost the sacs you did?
Cheers,
Dave

Dave, I've had my share, maybe 4-5 that just went bad on me while incubation hammock style (A seemanni, T blondi and E uatuman) from what I remember and I also had G rosea eat her sac after like 2 weeks or so, maybe a bit less. I've had success with 2 G rosea, 1 A avicularia, 1 A insubtilis, 1 P murinus (usumbara) and 1C marshalli by leaving with the mother. these are the ones I remember but I'm pretty sure that's it.
nice pics....good luck with the young:)

First, congratulations Rob!
I have a dumb? question..
When making that bowl thing, does she just spin around and around? And wouldn't it make the most hilarious compressed video if she did?
I am amazed they can make the sac without getting substrate mixed into their ball.
And I will be horribly sad whenever I recall you saying the mother wanders around looking for her eggsac after trying to keep it. I feel so mean to be a human being sometimes. :(

Oh man, it would have been sweet to catch her building on a webcam.
Just set it for time lapse and check it in the morning :)

Dragoon,
She kind of spins in circles but not concistently so it might actually look weird on a compressed video. As for not mixing substrate in with the webbing, she makes it pretty thick and takes her time rolling it up. She also puts more webbing over the eggs prior to rolling them up. Keep in mind that their web isn't sticky. Yeah it is kind of sad to see the mother wander around searching for her sac but it's the best thing to do in order to seperate the slings. Beleive me, I had bred my Ceratogyrus marshalli, she killed the male overnight so i kind of forgot about that breeding, a couple months went by and I had 192 slings crawling everywhere! It was a terrible pain to seperate them as they dispersed as soon as they felt disturbed. I had apx 4" of vermiculite and had to sift through every peice one by one. Needless to say it took HOURS!
Don't worry Red Dragon, I'll keep you guys posted! I have more eggsacs on the way but don't want to jinx myself so i'll update you guys on them too as soon as I get to that point.
Thanks for all your comments guys!

Yup. Thats the Schultz one......I built one as well. They seem so simple to make, but do end up costing quite a bit. $200 doesnt surprise me.:(
