Lapar, my 27" Sumatran Blood Python(yellow) usually just swallows her rat, after sniffing it. Tonight, she sniffed it all over, which seemed to excite her, and struck it pretty violently, bashing the rat into the side of the tank, and then yanked it into her moist box where she ate it.All in about 2 seconds! She seemed to be excitedly eating it also, like a dog chewing a stick, just seemed strange. What would cause this change? Is she just getting more confident? Or was she just very hungry? This is her 3rd rat since changing from mice, and she gets fed once a week.
Pretty cool to see her move like that, made me kinda proud!

My Black Blood has a different response all the time. I believe when they do what you described they feel that the prey item might not be dead yet. Its all instinct. Wether they havent attacked a prey item in years and have never constricted, put a live rat in there and watch it get squeezed! I think its all the matter of them knowing if its dead or not.

Do you think I should try a DAZED rat next time? Or just keep on with the f/k.
