As this is the place for off topic posts, I thought I would take the opportunity to congratulate my wife Sheila for a recent accomplishment.

Sheila won the Sandhills Wildlife Federation trophy for largest typical mule deer taken in the area. This area is known for producing some of greatest world class bucks.

Sheila has also been asked to come to the Annual Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation banquet for the Henry Kelsey awards. The buck placed second in Saskatchewan for the ladies division in 2003.

As a matter of interest, the first place buck was shot by a woman living in Maple Creek, about an hour south of Leader.

I've taken some better pictures of the antlers. Rather than having the buck traditionally taxidermied, we did a "European Mount". This one is not going in the flowerbed as Sheila had originally planned.

It will be hung on the wall and displayed proudly, that is, until some rich excentric hunter from south of the boarder who likes the symmetry.... and can trade for boelens, angolans, diamonds or other rare gems.

the pictures can be viewed at

Haha, I get it!

Mary, truth be told, I could have shot the deer also. Wawawa, I had plenty of time, I didn't realize how big it was just a standin there.

We are both getting bows, and a better camera, and will be doing a lot more "hunting" in the years to come.

It will likely be 20 years before Sheila or I have another chance at such a magnificant buck.

Between the 2 bucks we shot this year, we have been eating some of the best tasting meat for the last 2 months. I am a conservationist at heart, but agree with fair chase hunting to keep populations in check, and there is no tastier meat than this free range deer! The trophy thing was just a really lucky bonus, this deer was the size of a steer - and we were hunting for meat.

Mark, we made lots of sausage, roasts, canned deer, jerkey... (With all of the deer meat, I feel like that shrimp farmer on Forest Gump, I know every way to prepare deer).

Remind us, we will bring you some sausage.

I actually got to touch those bones! OOoo!!!! Plus I have some of the sausage in the freezer, BE JEALOUS!

Move to Leader, get deer when you want. We've got a young doe in the big freezer ourselves. Local hunter/farmer gave her to us to tide us over for the winter, not only that, but he gives us FRESH slaughtered beef (from his own cattle). T-bone steak, cutlet, ground beef, ox tail, all with dye, growth hormones of any of that nasty stuff.

Mmmm mmm!!
