I don't see at all why that would be bad.

Just make sure there are hides appropriate for his size (I don't know much about sand boas but a lot of snakes like a hide that they fit pretty snugly into for security).

I put my KSB right in his 10 gallon when we got home. I don't see a problem with it. He just immediately burrowed in the substrate checking the place out.

Kenyans don't need hides, Auskan. They bury themselves completely in the substrate. The substrate is their hide.

you should get an Under the Tank heater, I don't think a light will help heat a sand boa very well.

with sand an undertank heater makes the temps to hot.. if you want a snake bake sure...

After being closely involved in the sale of many, many CB KSB's, the substrate of choice is Betachip. Keep your baby in the deli-cup you get him in on this substrate for a good six months. They like small containers. 80-85 F. is a suitable temperature. They do need some water, offering it for a few hours once a week works, or even better just spraying a few drops on the underside of the lid of the deli-cup is simple and efficient. Do not let the substrate get wet. They are also surprisingly good at climbing=escape. Keep the lid on tight!

Roy, please jump in here if I've missed anything *LOL*

Scotty, no need to jump in....Perfect...
I'm sure it was one of my posts where he read that 10 gallon tanks are a bad idea for babies... I still think that...

Undertank heaters should never be allowed to bake a snake. Sand is very conductive of heat, however, if properly regulated there is no reason it should become excessively warm.
