ANYways...what is the substrate this persons using? Can i use this until the ground unfreezes and ill get some dirt? Also can i use this permenently?

It's a product called bed a beast or eco earth. You can pick up these expandable coconut fiber bricks either at a pet store or a feed store. I suggest the feed store. Same product really cheep!!!

They are small compressed bricks that will expaned when water is added. You can use them moist or dry. I have never had a problem with this product, but i don't know if you can use them with monitors. I would wait and see if you can.

that looks possibly like a mixture of what drewlowe said and dirt. looks like a good mix to me... For my savannahs i use outdoor dirt with a bag or two of sand mixed into it as they seem to like their dirt a bit more sandy than normal.

Ok so guess ill just leave him on the mulch until the summer so as to not disturb him or stress him out at the current time. Ill wait till the summer and grab some dirt with a mix of sand like ya said..and how deep should it be? like half a foot? My tank is only 2 feet high so i cant have it to high

100% coconut husk, (each brick) expands to 7-8 times its original size. Highly absorbent, non-toxic and non-abrasive. Harmless if ingested. Use moist or dry. One block yields 7-8 liters of bedding this is what that person is using. Each brick is about 8 dollers .

Yea ive bought a brick before...used it for part of my torts substrate

Mine looks different though...looks like little squares, did i not break it up enough??
