I was just wondering what the members of this site thought...im looking to get a new snake at the upcoming reptile expo on the 22nd but im not sure which snake is better in most ppl's opinion that is...through difficulty of care, temper and other factors...so is it the rainbow or the hog ??
Thanks,
Ryan
PS: any helpful hints very appreciated :D

I'm not a big fan of brbs, but that aside I think the hogs are easyer to care for and are more forgiving with husbandry.

I keep a pair of each. The Hog is by far my favorite snake. Both are great but the Hog will be easier to care for. It won't need to have a special cage needed to keep in the high humidity like a BRB will.

I also bought a Hog last year and love him. He's a little bit jumpy around feeding time...but other than that he's a sweetheart.

Aw, well just to be different i'm going to throw out the fact that i, personally, love my BRB. She's a little nippy but that's my own fault for not handling her often. But i agree that maybe a hog would be easier to care for. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Well I picked up a BRB of PCPC at the show and its absolutely stunning. The constrast of colours is great and hasnt nipped at me yet. But its early in the game. LOL
Thanks for all your imput over the time period

If you don't have a significant amount of experience with herps, I don't recommend a BRB. They are NOT a beginner's snake. Go for the Hog if you are new to the hobby. Go with whatever you like if you're not. (Here's one way to know - If you need to ask 'How do I keep the humidity up?', you're not ready for a BRB... just my 2 cents.)

Im not a beginnner persay. I worked in a pet store reptile section for 4 years and took care of all the snakes personally because nobody else knew anything about it. I even had to come in on days off to make sure things were done properly and they were looked after. Ive dealt with everything from corns, milks, carpets, balls and bloods now. So I assumed a BRB was another step in the ladder of herp keeping. Im confident that Ill be able to provide this guy with everything he needs properly.
Thanks for the imput guys. Now we just wait to borrow a digi-cam to get those pics out there.
