Hey,
I have a few questions about ackies.
1.) When a hatchling, or real young can they live in a 20 gallon?
2.) What should the substrate be, and how deep? (is soil okay)
3.) How many crickets should you feed it a day?
4.) What should the basking spot and humidity be?
5.) Can they be cared in any ways like a savanah monitor, or are they totally different?
6.) To cover the top what should be used screen, plactic, wood?
7.) Is a glass aquarium covered with 3 sides of decorative paper okay, or should a wood tank be built?
And lastly...
8.) What's the largest tank they'll need in gallons, for a single animal?
Thanks.

email Brandon at Canadian Coldbloods.com, I bought a red ackie from him in the fall and it is growing great
I feed him 1/2 size crickets now, i have in a small tank that way i can adjust the temp and humidity, when he gets bigger , i will put him in a 20 gallon with a screen lid.He is a sand substrate with many rock hides , so he can burrow under and a few branches so he can climb and bask under a basking light, he is kept at a temp of about 85 degrees, and spray his tank about 2 x a week ,
has a shallow water dish which i have to refill each day.
but contact brandon at canadiancoldbloods.com
my 2 cents

1) yes
2) dirt, but soil is good for juvis
3) depends on the ackie, feed it as much as it'l take
4) basking for a juvi 110-120, adult 130+
5) similar, but a smaller scale
6) top should be insulated (wood, plastic whatever) to avoid any heat or humidity leak. this will keep humidity at sufficient levels
7) glass acquariums are ok for juvis but IMO crap for adults, make a custom cage with 1 vent for ventilation (keeps dirt moist, and the air humid enough)
8) single animals can be put into a 3x2x2, pairs and more 4x2x2 +
