I just received this rhino in on a rescue. It came in with a small case of URI. I have treated it with Baytril and Chlortetracycline and it appears to be doing 100 time better. It has had two small mice and Just ate a full grown Rat which was injected with an electrolite and b12 complex. Thanks Gregg for the help.

Very nice Scott,
Look at the size of those venom glands......It has some really nice face markings...... Looks like he/she is set up very well too....... Glad to see it in good hands, or should I say, HOOKS.....LOL
Please consider primary parasitical pneumonia as a differential diagnosis. I strongly recommend a tracheal wash as well as a fecal check. Lungworms (Rhabdias) are a major, major problem in imported rhino vipers and when you see respiratory problems in rhinos you should be considering Rhabdias as a possible underlying cause.
This snake might just have the usual sort of bacterial URI, but given species and origin it's well worth a check. With parasitical pneumonia you get temporary improvement with antibiotics due to opportunistic bacterial growth causing some of the actual symptoms, but the problem will recur.
I know I'm a bit of a drive north from you, but it might be worth the gas to bring her up since I can do the tracheal flush and microscopic exam here at no cost for a rescue animal.

He is doing much better but if your free next Sunday afternoon I would love for you to take a look no drive distance is to far for a good health check to help an animal. Now throw in a veiwing of this awesome King of yours Hunter is always bragging about and I will be there with bells on. err fangs on lol.
Sure, come on over. You can watch the big orange king scarf up some rats while I have a peek at your rhino. :)
