View Full Version : cactii?
Is there any cactii that i can put in my bearded dragon cage? Do i have to make sure it has minimal spokes, or will they know not to spike themselves? Are they safe?
Thanks

I'm sorry but I don't have an answer. Check with drewlowe she's real knowledgable about beardies. She maybe able to help.

I would go more in the way of succulants then cacti. Certain succulents are softer and don't have any pointy spikes. You can test it out and see if it works, I tried once and my beardies demolished their pretty succulant. Check your local nursery or i belive home depot sells them.

Not a cactus but a succulent none the less................. I put a bunch of Haworthia variegata in with a group of beardeds when I first started with them and they had them grazed down to the roots in no time. I'd be a little nervous of putting anything with spines in there given Pogona's tendency to eat (or try) anything green. It's just not worth the risk of injury.
thanks, i'll check out the succulents. Are they all non-toxic? THanks

I have no idea on the toxicity of succulents other than H. variegata does not appear to be. There is also a type of spineless Opuntia (Prickly Pear Cactus) that your dragons will love but I don't know where you can get some. It grows like wildfire with lots of warmth and light, the dragons will enjoy the young plants that sprout. Your local nursery may be able to help.
