Need help biulding a snake enclosure

Does anybody know a good site or something on how to build a snake enclosure. I want it to be atleast 4'x2'x2', I would also like to be able to stack the enclosures.

Maybe consider a boaphile, since I got mine I have had nothing but good things to say. I got the largest possible 422D, with expandable right end incase I decide to make it bigger. It's 4'x2'x17", I got double heat which is low watt flexwatt and both types of lighting. I use the flourescent(sp?) for viewing since it's the centerpeice of my room, and put a CHE in the bulb socket light fixture. It cost me $479 shipped but I also got the thermostat which was $100 in itself(I LOVE IT) I was gonna build my own, but fell inlove with the boaphile cages and decided to go that way.

Manufacturers make some great caging available out there, and with some building of your own you can make some decent Melamine caging. I recommened looking at the ease of cleaning, husbandry and access when building a cage. I make my own boa cages at 4 x 2 x 2 out of melamine with sliding glass doors. Overall cost is around $60 for one, roughly $15 for a heating pad, and then the odds and ends like water dishes and substrate. Try a search in the forums and I am sure you will find some great ideas for building your own if that is the route you would like to go.

melamine, I tried making one out of ply wood, it was a P.I.T.A and it still stinks of urathane, and it's been like 4 months. Next time we build a cage, it will be melamine. It's so easy.

Get proper sized melamine pieces for cage. nail/screw or however to put them together, put aquarium safe sealant in the cornors and put the door on, be it a opening door or a sliding door. And I've heard for most snakes you don't even need vents, that enough air comes in around the door(s) for them.......but that may be an opinon.

The only fall back is you WILL need casters of some sort because they weigh a ton.

Melamine sucks. Seriously, all my melamine stuff went all to hell in a very short while. Before anyone says it's the low quality stuff, well some of it is the more expensive professional grade that you cannot just pickup at home depot or something, so that's not the problem. It's heavier than anything, it chips, it does not hold up to high humidity very well over an extended period of time, it chips, the edges are sharp, it smells bad initially, it bubbles, and forget putting any decorations like branches or rocks in it, because that will scratch the surface giving immediately killing your enclosure. The inside is made from particle board, so it's basically dust, and the moment it gets wet it swells and deteriorates from absorbing all the moisture. It seems like a nice shortcut, but in the long run it's not worth it all IMHO.

I have two melamine tanks. One doesnt get any moisture causs its for a russian tort but my sav enclosure gets some humidity...more on one side causs theres a little water fall thing and it has leaked many times because i didnt build it right..the melamine is ok even with the water contact. I dunno about really high humidity tanks but mine are doing ok as of 6 months being owned..how long in the long run do you mean? Like a year or two?
