so what are the pros and cons of melamine and plywood for a rack. Also what would you use and y? thanks
For a rack? Melamine has a plastic coating, it won't warp, it won't get soggy, it won't mold, it won't splinter...

IMO, Melamine is more user friendly. Simpler to use, not much more in ways of cost, looks nice..etc, etc. Plywood would need a coating of poly., possably paited to look nice. It splinters, is dirtied faster (unless you wanted to take the time to treat it). Just about any type of wood can be used, just that Melamine is generally used by how easy and simple it is to use.

Yeah I would have to agree that it's just a lot less work to use melamine because it's already sealed. Who wants an enclosure which allows waste and moisture to seep into it? Personally I think the stuff is kinda cheap and tacky looking (even if I did just pay $40 for a sheet of it...lol)but you can't beat it for practicality, just like the rubbermaid containers that usually fit into the melamine racks.
