View Full Version : Dumerils small local....
Hi ,
I just took pics of the dums. I imported them legaly with the Malagasy Grounds past summer & they are microshiped from Europe. They are not related to anyone in Canada. Its a smaller local F2 dums. Can't wait to get the malagasy tree boas I'm getting the bluish gray smaller local and some mandarin phase all adults.
These dums get more and more colour as they age. Here's a 2001 Male he always ate like a pig and he's not even 3 feet yet. Its hard to capture their true colors on cam...

Beautiful, Dum's. Good luck with them. But make sure you take some pics of those malagasy Tree boas when you get then and keep me in my mind if you produce any babies :D, as they're one of my favourite snakes!

How long did it take you to get the Canadian import permit? Did they inspect your premises?
Around 1 1/2 month same for the export permit from europe of my guy. They also come from a country that is really hard to export from.
Sorry my english Roy I have a hard time with that word what is premises? I checked in the dictionnary and I dont understand whats the meaning / to....
Can you help me ?
If you are talking about my background yes they checked it and i've been refered by aknowledged institutions.
Stav
Thanks Alex, I'll keep you in mind.)

Very interesting! I've never seen the smaller Dums. Premises means your grounds/land, facilities, etc.

Thanks all;)
Thanks alot Linds for explaining premises;)
Roy why should they inspect my facility??
I've been refered by Dr,.'s and Biologists and by institutions... I've bred many snakes many times. I've done quite a bit for native species here to in the field. I dont get the question could you elaborate more because I dont even know if this answers to your question.

Stav, years ago I was considering importing some Dumerils, and I was told by the Canadian wildlife Service that one of the terms of legal acquisition of appendix one animals was that the facility , caging etc. had to be inspected and verified to be suitable. In addition to that the animals could not be for commercial reasons. Ie not for breeders that intend to sell the babies
At the time, I was told there was nobody to do those inspections, so I didn't even bother taking it further.
It appears that there has been some recent relaxing of the rules for appendix one snakes.
I know several people now that have been granted import permits for appy 1 boids, without a facility inspection, and for mostly commerical purposes....
I think it's great! But I wonder what has lead to the relaxing of the rules.
Ten years ago, only bona fide zoos could get appendix one animals
Thanks Roy now I understand;)

I understand it looks like it but its really not the case. In fact they check everything almost ...even the colours of your underwear if you get what I mean;) I'm ok with that because some people shouldent get permits for import because they import for resell. Not only for Dums but for everything in appendix I.
I was told by the Canadian wildlife Service that one of the terms of legal acquisition of appendix one animals was that the facility , caging etc. had to be inspected and verified to be suitable.
Here's where references are important.....Its still the same. You have to prove you are able to keep them properly and breed them. Having for ex. the Toronto zoo, Dr.'s, biologists or any legal recognized institution, Vets etc.. that know you and that trust you and that can refer you to them with documents from their part that state that you can give them the proper care, caging etc.. and that you can reproduce them. Offcourse you have to know them and be very close to them either by doing field or whatever else related . This because they put up their names and reputations up for you. Understand?
In addition to that the animals could not be for commercial reasons. Ie not for breeders that intend to sell the babies
You never could and you never will be able to ressell the original animals you've imported. Thats what cities is all about. But you can ressell the babies that you produce. There's a another permit intended for that other than the usual cities permits and its issued for this purpose only. ( for export sells.)
Ten years ago, only bona fide zoos could get appendix one animals
Its still the same , it was still the same with private people back then but not many could or can provide the proper references so thats why not many permits were or are issued every year.
Hope that helps,
Stav
